penportrait
In this picture, you will see three different designs in which I have come up with to express the quote “The pen is mightier than the sword”. in my first design I have presented the letters in this quote all sharing a curled style. I have done this due to the fact that this style of calligraphy is very commonly done in ink and is usually put in to practice while using very old fashioned fountain pens. and due to the fact that this particular quote is exulting the idea of pens I felt this design best reflected the fact that pens write in ink. I have also attempted to express the meaning of the word mightly doing so by designing it in this curved way. as I believe that this style reflected the bow of a flexing arm. an idea of which is an action that shows strength. as well as this in this design, I have designed the letter is in the word sword with an elongated pointed bottom as to reflect the tip of a blade. In my second design, I have started by creating the words the and pen in this quote in a scratched like fashion in order to cause an ink scratched effect. while again re-creating the pointed effect in the letter s of the word sword that I had designed in my first thumbnail. in this second design, I have also experimented with a somewhat simple typeface for the word mightier with a pointed m. In my final thumbnail, I have designed the first word in this quote in a curled like style of which shows the top line of the T looping into the letter H a style choice of which I felt exaggerated the curled style that I have used throughout the letters of the quote. in this final design, I have created the letter M in the word mightier having very large arches with very round and protruding serifs because i felt that this design caused this particular word to stand out from the text better.
three
These designs all express my chosen quote that reads “Three things cannot be long hidden. the sun, the moon and the truth. out of all of these designs I have chosen to further develop my first design. I have chosen to do this as I feel that this design hold the most intriguing composition as the positioning of the words.  I also believe that my typography in this design well expresses the meanings behind the individual words.

These are some of my designs that I have created in order to express my chosen quote ” the pen is mightier than the sword”. I began with the bottom design that reads the word pen . in this drawing I have filed in the design with black ink and attempted to create a spilled ink effect that I have slightly filled in with red ink.  The letters above this design are my designs to express the word mightier. I have created these letters in a tick and bold way as to reflect the strong idea of the word mightier. In the larger version of the word  pen

SLICED
To create this split look I first began by writing out the word sliced after which I then drew a box that I slightly tilted to one side and placed over my word. one this was done I then selected my word and used the crate outlines function  having done this I then selected both the word I had made and the rectangle that I then used the crate shape tool to segregate the top section of my letters . after this i then changed the colour of my now segregated letters while also changing there positioning to cause this lightly dispatched look.

three things FINISHED
I am pleased with this outcome I believe that I have created a good amount of contrast which has resulted in this piece being very eye-catching and appealing look however I don’t feel that these colours well explain the meaning behind this quote and as a result, I will look to further develop this piece and set out to achieve a more meaning full design.
three things FINISHED black and RED orange blue edite
In this design, I have further developed the overall loom by using colour to express the meaning behind the individual words of this quote . in this design I have also used triangular shaps to better direct the attention of my audience townwards across the page. I have also used punctuation marks to add stress to words.

Evaluation
This is an image of my final design in this piece I have presented my audience with the quote that reads “Three things cannot be long hidden. the sun, the moon  and the truth.” I believe my design to be successful this is due to the fact that I feel that I have designed the individual words with this text in ways that well explain the meanings behind them. this can be seen in the way that I have created the first word of this quote. That being the word three possessing a letter E at the end of this word that looks like a backwards number three. I have also attempted to express the meaning behind the word cannot. I have done this by first finding a font of which was rather large that possessed a significant amount of detail  as I felt that these characteristics would  cause this word to be more eye-catching  to add to this I also made the conscious decision to use capital letters for this word  as I believed this would cause my audience to better interpret this word as being an important one while also influencing them to read this word in a more stern way. I have chosen to create this text in red because this colour is one that is commonly seen taking place in warning signs and I felt that this colour well expressed the negative meaning behind the word cannot. as well as this I have placed two full stops at either end of this word to influence the reader to take a brief pause while thinking about the meaning behind this word. The word “Be” of this design has been placed within this triangular shape as I thought that this would cause this somewhat unimportant word to draw more attention. A technique I have again used in the makings of the words “and the.” Beneath this is the word long. I have expressed this word through using a typeface that has been designed extending the first and last characters within a word.
I have placed the majority of the word hidden behind the extension I have made occurring in the middle line of the letter H in order to obstruct the view of some of the character using the letter H, well expressing the meaning behind this word while also exaggerating the importance of the first letter. I had chosen this typeface for this word as I felt that the detailing resembled the markings in which a person may use to draw a shadow
The words the sun has been designed with the word the extending upwards both taking up a larger space on the page and expressing the high positioning of the sun. the characters of this word are all-in lower-case letters and in a grey colour, as this does not take attention away from the word sun in which I have caught the attention of my audience with using capital letters, a yellow colour explains the colour of the sun.
I have mirrored this technique in the words “The moon.” While using a blue colour for the word moon to again reflect its well-known colour.
Finally I expressed the word truth by again using capital letters to exaggerate the importance and to influence the viewer to read this word in a stern manner while designing this word changing from black to red as I felt the dark black that changed to the lighter colour of red well reflected the ways in which the truth can enlighten its subject. Exclamation marks have also been placed on either side of this word to exaggerate the importance and the volume in which this word is read.
the pen re aranged
I am pleased with my final outcome as I feel that I believe that I have well express the meaning of my quote that reads the pen is mightier than the sword. doing so by first choosing a typeface that resembles ink that I have used in the word “The” that occurs twice in this quote. I have done this to explain the ink cartage within a pen.  While also displaying the word is in an ink marking to further express this fact. I have also chosen a slender somewhat sharp looking typeface to display the word pen as I felt that the sharp point that can be seen extending from the letter p in this word resembled the point of a pen and also thought that this design caused the word pen to look more intimidating.  If you will acknowledge the way in which I have designed both I’s in the word mightier resembling pillars of which appear to be forming a structure. I have done this in order to reflect the strong and stable meaning behind the word mightier. Underneath this text is the word the of which can be seen displaying a thin, curved and slightly pointed typeface I have chosen this design as I felt that this type attracted more attention to this word while also contributing to the sharp and intimidating meaning behind this quote. The final word of this quote is the sword of which I had taken the same sharp text that I had previously used in the word than and had edited the letter s to resemble the shape of a sword. A characteristic that I feel thoraly explains the meaning of the word sword  I have also used a simple and clear colour scheme in hopes that this would cause this quote to be interpreted as a blunt statement rather than an opinion.

LEARN edited
I have designed the first word of this quote that reads learn to rest not to quit in this colourful and informal way as I felt that this design looked fun and almost childlike a characteristic of which I believe we’ll explain the idea of learning and the childlike way of the mind before it has been educated. To add to this fun style I have chosen a typeface that has a good amount of detail. As well as this the word rest has been designed in this hand renders way as to look artistic. I have expressed this word by editing the letter T of this word looking as though it is resting on the letter s.i have used this bright blue colour as I felt this colour contrasted well with my colour scheme.  I have chosen to design the word not in this red colour to reflect the negative meaning behind this word while also using capital letters to cause this word to be red in a very serious manner. I have selected an elongated text as I felt that this style made good use of the space given. The final word of my quote that reads quit has been designed using capital letters in hopes that this would suggest the importance of this word to my reader. I have also used a very detailed typeface as I felt that this caused this word to be more visually interesting. I have tried to express the meaning of this word through the cross like t as I believed that this image well suggests the idea of crossing something out while incorporating the colour red to further explain the negativity of this action. to finish this word of I have placed it between quotation marks to cause the reader to exaggerate the way in with they say this particular word.
