The first thing I notice about this book cover is the title of which acts as this books main focal point, this is due to the bright golden colour and clear variation in size of some of the words belonging to this designing, having some words larger than others all in while keeping the same design.  I believe that that the designer of this book has created this variation in size in order to stress the importance that belongs to the words lord and rings doing so buy illustrating the power that the word lord possesses and suggesting to the viewer that the subject of rings is present throughout this book. I am fond of the thin and somewhat sharp and decayed look of the typeface that the artist had designed, as it looks as though the text has been made out of Aztec gold, which well reflects the contents of this book. My eye is then drawn downwards along the page towards a smaller section of writing that reads ” continuing the story of the hobbit now a major motion picture”. I believe this grabs my attention again due to the very clear contrast in size technique that the artist had earlier used In the title of this book and is also because of the different typography that has been used in the beginnings of this sentence that is in a very curved, script-like font. That then changes into a very formal serif font that I think causes the words the hobbit to stand out very well. These variations in text allows the viewer to retrieve the most information in a very short amount of time. The large ring on the front of this book acts as the third focal point attracting the attention of its viewer with its very bright gold, metallic-like look that contrasts very well against the black background of this book I also notice that this image possesses a very old looking typography in which  can be seen travelling  around the edges and interior of the golden ring  that in some places has a red colour which I think had been incorporated in order to cause the writing to look as though it has been burned in to the ring. The final thing I notice about this book cover is the large the author’s name has been designed in a serif, yellow /gold colour typeface that is very attention-grabbing. I will look to re-create the amount of detail put into the title of this designs and will look to create a simple colour scheme.
GUEST_fd67d440-32fd-48af-9f96-bf2678289c5e
This book cover first attracts the attention of its viewer with its very large image of a  smiling cat, wearing a hat that has been designed to look hand drawn and possesses a very simple colour scheme of red, white and black. it is these simplistic and rough hand renders stylings that well suggest to the viewer that this book has been made to target children. this image acts as the main focal point of this book through its large size that stretches from the bottom of this book upward also while its simple colour scheme contrasts very well against its dark blue background. The second focal point belonging to this book is the large title that is informal, white and is a san serif font. This title well expresses the contents of this book doing so through its clear contrast in size that causes the rhyming words of this typeface to stand out against the other texts, glorifying these rhyming words while suggesting to the viewer that this book contains stories that rhyme.  The third image that my eye is drawn to is the large sticker like publisher logo which I believe has been very well positioned due to the fact that by placing it in this position in the book allows the brand to be very prominent to the viewer and I believe causes a lasting impression. finally, I then am allowed to read the authors name that being the very famous dr Seuss.i will look to recreate the flow of this book that well prioritises the different components of this book first telling the viewer of the main character of this book then of the title and finally of whom created this story.
19543._UY630_SR1200,630_
This book first attracts the attention of its viewer with its bold, informal title which reads where the wild things are. This typography is somewhat simple and irregular its characters vary in width which causes a noticeable difference in boldness within its characters an example of this can be seen taking place in the different styling of the e letter that re-occurs throughout this design. as well as this I suspect that the artist of this design has fashioned this typeface in a grey colour to symbolise the fact that the island in which the wild things are is an unknown place that could be considered to be a grey area.  The second focal point of this book is the large creature in which is featured in the rectangular image. the pictures in this  image have been designed in a cartoon-like style a characteristic which I believe illustrates the imaginative contents of the island in which the character in this story travels to that this book explains is a land which a young boy travels within a dream through the use of the sleeping monster like creature  in this image. The monster in this picture also explains the fact that the monsters in this book are friendly and unthreatening doing so through the resting and awaiting body language.  I have also noticed that the colour scheme in this image create a dusk-like setting that I think the artist had used to explain the time in which young children are known to go to bed.  the final focal point of this book cover tells of the contents of the book and the name of the author again using the same text in the title of this book but in a smaller text that causes me to assume that this text is not as important as the title.

519N8frZJzL._SX303_BO1,204,203,200_
The first thing I notice about this book cover is the gold band that can be seen taking place on the top of this book which reads the word legends. this standout better than the rest of the imagery due to its gold colour that contrasts very well against the black background of this book. I think that this has been done in order to let the audience know that the contents in which they are about to observe on this book cover express a fictional story. closely after I had observed this my eye was then guided to the text underneath this gold band that advertises this story as being a new york times best seller. this text captures my attention with its bright white colour that also stands out very well against the back background of this book cover. my attention is then drawn to the title of which I believe is successful as its bold futuristic style well illustrates the fact that this book tells of a story in which happened in the distant future. while this text has also been created possessing a  red colour that I think the artist has used to express the context behind the word war. I believe that the image of this book cover is very successful as it illustrates and prepares the audience for the gruesome and graphic war scenes that take place within this book. as well as this I suspect that the designer has created a grey and black background to create a somewhat depressing mood to the book cover. finally, this book cover then finally presents its viewer  with the very bold san serif text at the bottom of this book cover that has been created in white to reflect the  dominant white colour of the stormtroopers while the red blood like marking  keep the reader interested while also further explaining the fact that it is the stormtroopers who fight in this rumoured war. This typography can also bee seen used is the author’s name without the blood like pattern on its face.

This book cover uses its title as its main focal point I believe that the simple white typeface used is successful because it well reflects the simple request in which belongs to the title while the white colour contrasts well again the blue portion of the background. a third reason why I believe that this typeface is successful is due to the fact that the typography is clear which allows the viewer to retrieve the information in the shortest amount of time. the second focal point of this design is the image of ripped paper which causes the book cover to appear to have a hole in the front of this design. my eye is then dragged downwards towards the image of the cartoon woman I think this is due to this picture possessing the most colour. after this, my attention is then guided to look at the relatively small black serif text which contrasts well against the white background. finally, I am free to read the authors name that has been written in a thin style placed at the bottom of this book in a very dark orange colour, that works well in this design as this orange colour is only featured in the name of the author.
61I0YnhtfNL._SX324_BO1,204,203,200_
This book cover fist attracts the attention of its viewer with its decorative /serif font which has been created possessing a whimsical design in which I believe well expresses the fairytale setting of the stories within this book. This font also has been created in white which causes it to stand out extremely well against this book covers simple black background. The second focal point of this book cover is the three images which can be seen taking place on the top half of this book. these images grab the attention of the audience before the other three images that can be seen taking place at the bottom half of this book. This is because the images at the top posses brighter colours. once these six illustrations that tell the viewer of the stories within this book have been acknowledged the viewer’s eye is then free to observe the large border that frames the contents of this book cover. I will look to recreate this framed look as I believe it to be athletically pleasing.

This very famous book first attracts the attention of its audience with its large typeface that reads the words harry potter, that can be seen taking place in the top half of this book cover. This typeface has been created in white with subtle black markings which create a 3D effect that from my perspective causes this typography to resemble the lid of a coffin, a resemblance which I feel symbolises of the morbidity of the death of the character  Albus Dumbledore, that had taken place at the end of the previous harry potter book titled the half blood prince. this typeface also possesses a somewhat artistic style that has extended serifs in the letter h and a very long defender belonging to the letter r both taking place in the word harry. as this title continues the positioning of its character draws the eye down along the page through the use of the & symbol which after observing conducts the eye to read the word the deathly hallows. this typeface has been designed in a vastly different script like typeface that also possesses a shadowed effect . this style causes this text to look as though it has been cut out of paper which in my opinion makes this typography resemble an invitation. i suspect that the designer of this book has used two different typefaces belong to the two halves of the title to illustrate the fact that harry potter is the constant throughout these books doing so by using a very large and bold text that symbolises importance, while explaining  that it is the journey taken that changes expressing this fact through the use of a smaller, thinner text. The black and white colour scheme of this book cover is effective because it is a well-known fact that this combination of colours are worn to funerals, well suggesting to the reader that death takes place in this book. I have also noticed that the designer of this book has incorporated some iconic designs into the border of this book using the deathly hallows symbol. while also using harry potters scar in the corners and on the spine of this book cover.  I will look to recreate the use of iconic imagery in the design on my final book covers.

text
The designer of this book has designed a cover which is very text-based. the designer has made this characteristic effective buy crating the text on the front of this book very irregular possessing various different styles and sizes this causes an informal look that is interesting and original. As well as this the colour scheme that the artist has used well expresses the meaning of the title that reads ” the mayors tongue” due to the fact that the different colour reds resemble the colours belonging to a person’s tongue.  The text in this book cover guides the viewer’s eye diagonally down the cover.

I believe this book cover to be successful first due to the fact that the designer of this book has chosen to use a traditional gothic typeface in the majority of the text featured of this book, of which can be seen taking place in the very large title displayed on the face of this book that acts as the main focal point that has been designed in a dark red colour. This style typeface works well due to the gothic genre being intrinsically linked to the concept of vampires, while the dark red colour also symbolises the bloodshed that occurs in this book. The second focal point of this book cover is the author’s name which is significantly smaller than the title and has also been designed in white which causes it to stand out well against the grey background. The text of this typeface continue yo draw the viewers eye towards the top of this book where a different typeface has been placed in a black and red banner I think that these typefaces guide the viewers attention in this way by placing the text in this book is very close to one another while also using different but similar colour combinations as to  cause the text to look relevant to each other. I am very fond of the gothic castle that has been used as I believe the hand rendered style adds more detail and keeps the viewers interested for a longer amount of time. I also like the black and white colour of this image as I believe that by using these dull colours effectively suggests to the reader that this book has a dark and alumnus content.

623030_c610e5ecf4f84662b1d780063072013e
The designer of this book cover first intriguing the reader with its simplistic san serif typeface which has been designed in black while also having a rough texture look to it that effectively adds detail.  This same typeface has also been used in the name of the author that can be seen in white on the bottom half of this book cover both the title and the author’s name in this book poses colours that contrast well with their separate portion of the background. The image of the house that is on the left-hand side has been designed in a simple way and does not give much away about the story of this book but does however suggest to its viewer that the happening that take place are very relevant to this house. As well as this I think that the red and black colour scheme that dominates the background imagery has been incorporated to symbolise both banger and darkness which effectively implying that the genre of this book is a thriller.

51fK1Ueph7L
This book cover first attracts the attention of the audience with its script typeface that has been used to create the title that reads the way of the warrior. This typeface is successful because the scratched design and red colour resembles blood markings which well express the fact that a warrior is known to fight and to shed blood while doing so. The second focal point of this book is the image of the warrior of whom can be seen in a crouched position, holding a samurai sword while wearing a helmet that shields the warrior’s eyes I believe the artist has designed the warrior in this way to suggest that warriors are full of stealth and mystery. The third thing that captures my attention is the author’s name that can be seen taking place at the very bottom of this book cover, which stands out well against the section of the darkly coloured backgrounds due to its white colour. I will look to recreate the way that the imagery in this book cover explains the title.

48395-4429-57867-1-zorro
The artist of this design has fashioned the main focal point in the form of the white informal typeface that reads the title Zarro. This typeface has been designed having a wave-like flow to the structure of its characters which ends in an obvious flick, a characteristic of which I believe that the artist of this typography has designed as to resemble the swift and elegant motions in which Zarro waves his sword. as well as this I think that the white colour of this title has been used to symbolize the noise that the wind makes while Zarro waves his sword.  The main image of Zarro riding a horse has been designed well as this image presents this character wearing the correct attire while also using a cartoon style for this book cover which I believe brings a fun, family-friendly look to this book while the red sky in the background of this cartoon symbolises the fact that the setting of this story takes place in Spain.

red queen
This book cover is one of my favourites from the pictures that I had taken due to the way that it attracts the attention of its viewer with the image of the woman on its front cover which I assume to be the red queen. which is effective as the yellow and gold like colour of the hood that this woman is wearing creates a very clear contrast in colour with the dark red background. i like the way that the artist has designed the woman in this hooded cloke that creates a very dark shadow underneath the woman’s chin that covers her neck and chest as I feel that this style choice creates a mysterious look which suggests to me that the queen in this book is one who holds many secrets that may be revealed throughout this book . I will look to recreate the way that the artist has expressed the contents of this book through imagery.
tudor crow.jpg
I am also very fond of the main focal point of this book cover as this image of a crow, in my opinion, represents the idea of death which causes me to assume that death takes a part in this story. I also like the detail and the way that the black and white colour of the book stands out well against the gold and silver aspects of this book cover.
pain blue .jpg
I am very fond of this book cover because in my opinion even though it is simple its imagery speaks volumes. as it illustrates the context of the title very well which reads the experience of pain. the artist has done this by creating an image of a woman who has closed eyes that is resting on a chair. this image expresses the fact that pain in an inward experience through the closed eyes of the woman as this suggests the fact that the outside world cannot see a person inward experience of pain. while the resting body position, in my opinion, expresses the way that even though a person may be resting and look calm on the outside the inner feelings of a person is a mystery illustrating the way that looks can be deceiving.  This symbolism is also present on the back of this book cover which the designer has left blank again effectively suggesting to the viewer that the experience of pain in an inward affair.

FA MULAN 10 TYPE word press .jpg
out of these twelve desings, I have become inspired by the last typeface at the bottom right-hand side as I intend to re-create this style in gold and silver paint of which I believe would look very eye-catching.
fa mulan 5 .jpg
here I have experimented designing typefaces in metallic ink pens, black ink and golden paint. Having used these materials I now plan on creating my final typeface using a mix of these three materials as I felt they were different and athletically pleasing. I am fond of the typeface at the top left of these pictures that has been created in golden paint and I will look to further develop this look.

mulan drafts .jpg

mulan design.jpg
here are some of my fa Mulan book cover designs I am very fond of the design in the top left corner and will take this design further.

mulan design.jpg
this is my Chinese warrior symbol. I intend to fill these images in using gold paint and metallic pens on black card.
WARIOR DESIGN PRAC
here I have experimented with using metallic ink pens. I believe that these pens create a great amount of colour which I have made stand out well using a simple black ink pen that I have outlined my main shape with. having been pleased with this experimentation I have decided to use these materials in the front cover of my fa Mulan book.

schindlers type word press.jpg
I am very fond of the top left scribbled like typeface as I feel this one looks hand drawn, a characteristic I will look to re-create in my title. I also feel the curved and slightly elongated design is unique and interesting.

shin 5
here I have designed five typefaces for my Schindlers list book cover.  I am pleased with these designs and I have choices to re-create the typeface that is at the very bottom of this page as I feel this one will be interesting and will add texture and detail to my design.
s 2
I am pleased with both of these different styled letters, however, feel that the S on the left-hand side is too dark and will draw attention away from my main image so I have chosen to used the letter S on the right-hand side as it is a lighter shade of black and white. I intend to keep these colours best reflects the depressing tone of this book.
shin bright
I am pleased with the outcome of my title as I believe it to be clear and possesses a unique and constant style throughout all the letters. I have designed this typeface in this curved, ball serif way as I was looking to create a handwritten style of which I feel I have achieved. I also wanted to create a typeface that had a texture that I had created using ink markings that also create a shaded look.
shinder book 1
this is a rough sketch image of what I intend the book cover of my Schindlers list book to look like. while making this design I will keep the colour scheme black and white and may add very subtle bits of red paint.
mask deve.jpg
here I have begun to design the little girl that I intend to be the main focal point in my book. These images are in pencil but I do intend to draw over it in ink and paint the dress of the little girl in red watercolour paint.
mask press .jpg
Here I have designed a picture of a little girl running in a red dress that has the star of David on the chest to reflect the fact that the Jewish people in this book were forced to wear the star of David and were de-humanised and thought to be similar to rats, a fact that I have expressed through the use of this rat-like mask that also resembles a gass mask to explain the ways that some of these Jewish people were gassed to death. I have drawn her running with her arms behind her as to suggest the fact that these people become free at the end of this book.
SHIND LAY OUT PRESS .jpg
This is an image of my final front book cover design. I have added the colour red to this piece and a frame. I am pleased with design and will use it in the final book cover.
SHIN .jpg
This is an image of my final design for my front cover. I am pleased with this outcome as I feel I have created a very nice about of contrast, the imagery is clear and I believe the texture I have added to the border effectively adds more.
schindlers list book cover layout word press.jpg
I first began this book cover by hand drawing all the imagery desplayed in pencil. After I had done this I then re-traced the outlines of my design in ink pen. I have included imagery of a young girl running like a plain while wearing a rat like a mask,a blood red star of David on her chest and blood spray on her dress ,as to resemble the little girl that is seen wearing the red dress in shindlers list and acts as a symbol of hope and innocence. I chose to dress her wearing a rat like mask as to reflect the ways in which Nazi Germany dehumanised Jewish people by referring to them as rats. while painting the star of David in this blood red colour to show the way that Jewish people were forced to wear this symbol, which Hitler had made into a symbol of disgrace. A Swell as this I have also chosen to use a simple colour scheme of black and white that shows subtle hints or red as I felt these colours set a depressing tone to my book .
You may also notice the Nazi symbol that I had drawn to look as tho it is in a wax seal that is melting while also resembling blood. I hade choices to place this image on the back cover of my book to reflect the way that this symbol was one to be feared while also suggesting to my audience that this symbol was thought to be a formal one l like the queen of Englands wax stamps. As well as this, I have also created my title in this style because I was attempting to create a typeface that looked as tho it was hand rendered and resembled writing that might take place in the makings or a formal letter.
I have used the image of the young girl as my main focal point, that I have designed in this particular way to suggest to my viewer that the topic of this young girl and the Jewish people play an important role throughout this book while also expressing the manner in which these people are treated. I have successfully drawn the eye of my viewer to this image first, through my clear contrast in colour and dark shading that can be seen taking place in the girl’s hair. I then draw my viewers eye up the page to my title that reads Schindlers list.  If you will also acknowledge the border that I have incorporated that has been included to create a stronger amount of contrast and to draw more attention towards the imagery placed in the centre of my front cover.  The spine of my book cover has been created using the same typeface used for my title on my front cover that I have changed the colour to black, in hopes that this would cause it to stand out well. I have framed this type within two red banners on either side of the book title that I have placed the author’s name in the highest band and the publishing brand within the lower one. I have incorporated these red rectangles as I felt that these well framed the title of the book cover and drew more attention to the important aspects of the spine, allowing my audience to grasp the most information within the shortest amount of time.  The back cover of my book has been designed having the blurb of  this book above the imagery  which I have done as to stress the importance of the contents of this text  that acts as the back covers main focal point over the image of the Nazi stamp due to the texts monotoned black colour that stands out better than the images black and red colouring. The bar code has been placed on the bottom right-hand side of my back cover as I felt that this was a practical area to place it while also ensuring that it did not distract my viewer away from the important imagery.

shindler book mock
I am pleased with this outcome as I feel that I have well explained the contents of this book to my viewer while creating an original look. however, if I were to do this again I would have made my title stand out better and incorporated more imagery into my white space.

FA MULAN FIRST DRAFS J PEG WHITE.jpg

FA MULAN SMUDGE .jpg

FA MULAN BOOK COVER LAY OUT press name 1 .jpg
I began this book cover buy first hand drawing the imagery that I have used in this cover doing so by first drawing the images out pencil and then going over the imagery in ink which after I then filled in the images using metallic ink pens. after I had completed these images I then scanned them in and individually edited them on photoshop. I have designed the title of this book cover in a calligraphy of which I had designed to look as though its characters have been made from butterfly wings. as to make reference towards the drastic change that Mulan puts herself through to look like a male soldier that could be considered as a temporary act of metamorphosis.  while adding the flowers to suggest to the audience that the contents of this book are about a female. I have also incorporated the use of Chinese symboled to reflect Mulan’s  Chinese heritage and to explain the settings of this story, these symbols put together mean warrior well explaining the identity of Fa Mulan. for the front cover of this book, I have made my title the main focal point because I felt that this characteristic added context to all other imagery viewed after the title allowing the viewer to make connections between the book and the imagery better. I have also placed many flowers unevenly around the edges of my book focusing my attention mainly on the corners. i have done this as I felt that these flowers well framed my decorative title and added a lot more detail to my overall design while also causing the book cover to appear to be more vibrant in colour  and also felt that the way these flowers cause the viewers eye to travel around the edges of the book was a unique effect. amungst these flower at the bottom of my page I have placed the name of my author ,framing the name  and sing the large amount of space between the title and the  name of the author to allow these two texts to be viewed individually  if you will now draw your attention to the spine of my book where I have used the same typeface for my title doing so as I felt that the spine of this book required detail and colour and I have also incorporated two flowers and the Chinese symbols in this  section of my book cover which I have distributed evenly on either side of my title to  well frame this title to imply the importance of this title. on this spine, I have also chosen to place the book publisher mark in colour on the very bottom of the spine as I believe this positioning allowed this stamp to stand out. finally, I have created my back book cover having the blurb placed on the top section of this page as I believed that this would suggest to the viewer that this information is important. I have also attempted to exaggerate this fact by placing a flower above this text as I believed that this flower would catch the attention of my viewer that then conducted the eye downward to the blurb. the final piece of imagery on the back of this blurb is the Chinese symbols that I had made earlier on which I had positioned here as i felt that this image added aesthetics to my back cover.

fa mulan
I am pleased with my final book cover as I believe it to be detailed and athletically pleasing while also being very original. however if I were to re-create this design i would have photographed my pictures as I believe that this would have allowed the metallic pens to  take full effect allowing my book cover to appear to have a subtle shine to it and this would have expressed the idea that even tho Mulan is a female that she was also very strong .
