Unit 01 Visual recording in art and design.

APPLESS.jpg
the apples drawn in to top left corner have been created using pencil and graphite pencil while the green apples into top right-hand corner have been drawn using oil pastels and the bottom left red apples and the red and green one have been made using coloured pencil. finally, the purple and blue apples on the bottom right corner have been made using chalk  that I drew over stencils with.
apples of three .jpg
The apple on the far left has been made using the shape tool that I made many circles with to create the body and drew over these different coloured ovals and circles with different textured paint brush markings.  while the dominantly green apple in the middle has been created using the pen tool and different colours and textures that I blended together using the smudge tool . after I was finished with that particular tool I then used the paintbrush tool making small circular scribbles around the parts of an apple that would be shaded.. finally I created the last apple using the paintbrush tool using many different textures and colours.
apple triangle .jpg
I began making this geometrically shaped apple by first drawing a rough apple shape that I then filled the interior of the shape with various different sized triangles that I then filled in using the paint bucket tool.
cup pic .jpg
This is the image of the coffee cup that I have chosen to create my coffee cup logo designs with . i have chosen this picture in particular as the cup its self is a rather wide one and possesses a unique design on the top of the coffee foam.
cup trace
this is an image of the traced image that I made for my negative space coffee cup logo design.  I believe that my design is simple yet effective and records the shape and structure of a coffee cup well.
Untitled-1
This is the final outcome of my negative space coffee cup logo. I am pleased with this outcome as I have no thin lines allowing every mark and detail to be visible and very clear. I crates this final outcome buy taking my  previous ink design and editing it on photoshop doing so buy darkening the black erias using the exposure tool .
cup trace 2
this is the traced outline design that I had made to act as my outline coffee cup logo. I am pleased with this design as I believe that  the overall design is interesting and athletically pleasing .
cup and whirte
This is an image of my final coffee cup outline. I believe that this logo is successful  as I think that my design has been designed in such a way that it creates the most amount of contrast doing so buy making the form of my coffe

abc town press .jpg
this is an image of an alphabet that I have made out of various different typefaces that I have found in many different places around the city.
10 words hurd press .jpg
these are many different phrases that I have heard while travelling around the city of Bristol. I have incorporated many emojis to express these individual expressions while also resembling a text message.
feet collage.jpg
Here i have photographed many pictures of my feet in different locations around the city of Bristol that were all taken on the 25th of May. These places include Bristol cathedral where i took the picture of my feet on a crest on the floor in the building at 16:10 pm, spike island where i took the picture of my feet in this colourfull bristol mosaic that was also on the floor that i took at 13:11pm. I have  also taken a picture of my feet on a graffitied wall that showed Bristol suspension bridge  that i took at 19:29 pm, The photo of my feet on walking on the rope was taken at Bristol docs at 18:00pm while the photo of my feet walking across a tiled floor was taken in a bathroom in the galleries in town at 20:15 pm   and  the last image of my feet  that  has a metal line travelling through the middle of my feet  with many metal  circles taking place under my right foot while  the pavement looks rather ordinary underneath my left foot was taken in queen  square at 12.28 pm.
map town press .jpg
here I have created a map of the journey I took from St Georges market into the town centre doing so buy listing every restaurant and coffee place I walked past on my journey.
la tower .jpg
Here I have taken a photo of an example of different culture in Bristol doing so by taking a photo of the Eiffel tower that I found in the M Shed.
rubb
I created two of these rubbings from two rather strange two-pound coins that i acquired while in the city of Bristol. one of these coins had a picture of Isambard Kingdom Brunell . while the other coin had a picture of a skull and a rose on it that was dedicated to the memory of William Shakespeare. I also used a fifty p  that had a picture of a Beatrix Potter rabbit on its front. As well as this i also created a rubbing in blue chalk, doing so by placing a piece of paper on a chain that was made out of a wooden material that had been woven together to make the seat of the chair. the final rubbing in this picture was made using a plastic coin that i found in a shop in Bristol called the forbidden planet that sells many pokemon items such as this coin.
brunell .jpg
This is an image of Isambard Kingdom Brunel that is riding a bike that I took a picture of next to the mud doc in town. I believe this piece of graffiti art to be iconic as it is the only piece of graffiti that includes Isambard kingdom Brunell.  this image is also iconic to me as i see this piece of grafiiti daily as i pass it while on the bus almost every day.
mark set.jpg
This is a picture is the mark I left on the city I made this by placing my sunglasses in the centre of a wooden table that  I found in spike island. i believe that this image is successful as i often wear these sunglasses often and the fact that the markings on this table resemble a sun to me reflects the way i am a fan of the hot weather all in while looking aesthetically pleasing

collage patterns.jpg
Here I have made a collage using ten patterns from  various photos I took from the city, one of which provided many different black and white  patterns that I took two different patterns from,

bench .jpg
I found these very different benches of which I took photos of as I felt that they differed from ordinary benches that are usually seen taking places around Bristol.
fancy door way
This picture is the first photo i have taken for the task i was given to find three interesting doorways. i have chosen this doorway because it contains two doors, having one very big one that possesses a very small door that has been cut into the right half of this door.  i also felt that the arch of this door possessed a very intricate design and had a lot of detail. after i had taken this picture i edited it on photoshop by adjusting the exposure.
boat door way
This is a picture of my second interesting doorway, this doorway belongs to a boat restaurant that i found while in Bristols town centre. i chose this  particular doorway as i admired the way it was aluminated with lights and had green leaves hanging from the canopy that extended over this entrance.
door way zag
This is an image of my final doorway that I have chosen due to its interesting design that can be seen travelling around the arch of this doorway, i also felt that the fact that this door was an opening into a short shadowed  tunnel created a strong amount of contrast in this photo  causing the small details to stand out better.

boat better .jpg
This is an image of the oldest thing that i could find in Bristol. This boat called the Mayflower is the oldest British built ship that was built in the year 1861. i felt that is picture was the most appropriate image for this particular task as it is the oldest thing i could find in the city and also explains bristols boating history.
can i have can .jpg
I drew this picture while sat in the M shed cafe in spide island. during this time I sat drinking a can of lemonade while children walked past asking their parents for ice cream from an ice cream truck that was close by and music entertained the passers-by from a guitarist playing in the middle of the commotion. this daw tas also particularly hot.
can i have can teeth
Here i have further developed my earlier drawing that explained my experience while sitting in a cafe in spike islands. I have done this by adding teeth into the mouth section of this image as i felt that this further expressed my original idea.
PEOPLE.jpg
Here i have photographed many images of people in the city i found these, paintings and doll during a pop-up market that took place in the city centre.

DUCK MINGO
This is a picture of a plastic flamingo that i have placed next to two ducks. I have done this to create a perspective image. I feel that this photo well expresses different perspectives as i have used a toy of a flamingo that looks similar to the ducks in this picture that well illustrates the difference in size between this toy bird and the two real ducks.
BALLOON CITTY .jpg
This is a picture i took while looking upwards in the town centre. i found these brightly coloured balloons and thought that they well expressed the fact that Bristol is well known for its balloon festival.
hole 2 .jpg
This is the photo I took to express the presence of absence of which can be seen taking place in the triangular shaped gaps in this image. I have also chosen this particular picture as I felt the fact that this hole in the wall was shaped to look like the British flag was very fitting for this project that is based around the city of Bristol.
30 words press.jpg
in this image, i have listed 30 words in which i have heard while walking around the citty of Bristol and words that i felt well described this city. while doing this I walked around the town centre as i thought that this particular location would be full of people. as i was walking around the town i realised that a very large majority of people were shopping so I decided to focus my descriptive words on this fact ,causing me to think of words such as money, advertisement and many more it was also raining during this time so i decided to include this word. i found these different type faces on a websight called font space in which

eggg
Bristol invented the easter egg.  i believe that I have expressed this fact well through my use of the British flag that i have placed on the front of the hat drawing, while also expressing the concept of eater trough my use of an easter egg and bunny ears that can both be seen appearing on the hat.

roar red.png
here I have attempted to express the fact that the British pub called the steam crane pub was once home to a tiger, I feel I have well explained this with my imagery, doing so by using the head of a tiger and a  rust-like background which I have included in order to resemble the rust  that may take place on an old crane. I have also included the name of this pub and placed this imagery within a square shape that had a black border to resemble a traditional pub sign.

CREAINS
There are two cranes on spike island that talk to each other and have very strong Bristolian accents. and i believe that i have expressed this fact through including imagery of both of these cranes while also quoting very simple phrases from there conversations that i have places in speech bubbled in the shape of cogs and gears, illustrate the interior content inside of these cranes.
grom
The famous cartoon Wallace and Gromit was made in Bristol. A fact in which i feel i have expressed well through my drawing of this pair drinking from British mugs showing their common bond and supporting Bristol.
vaderr.jpg
The actor who played Darth Vader was a Bristolian and i feel that i have explained this fact well through my somewhat comical sketch of Darth Vader telling Luke that he is in fact from Bristol, in a very Bristolian accent.
can.jpg
Here i have allowed the citty to create a piece of art for me doing so by asking a passer buy to crush a can i found in a graffiti-ridden skate park. i believe my photo well expresses the art that takes place in the city by well capturing the way in which people often litter and vandalise the public property around the city of Bristol.
chain hole.jpg
Here i have photographed a building across the sea through a chain that was attached to an old industrial machine. i believe my picture to be successful as it is clear and has a lot of detail and contrast in colour that occurs in greys belonging to the chain and water. and the whites found in the buildings, sky and in the waves in the water. as well as this i believe that the picture seen through the hole in the chain is interesting as I think that the brown parts of the building almost frame the white square part of this building resulting in a strong focal point.
colour wheel begiinnings.jpg
This is an image of a colour wheel that i have made from various photos that i had taken while i was walking around the city of Bristol. i feel that my colour wheel is successful as i have included many different shades of each colour and i also believe i have managed to blend the colours well, causing a nice flow of colour.
wall and grom black
this is the design for my own creation. here i have drawn an image of Wallace and Gromit playing a chess game while Gromit is dressed as Isambard Kingdom Brunell and Wallace is dressed as black beard, both representing British iconic characters.
wall grom colour
This is my final design for my own visual recording. i have encorperated colour using both watercolours, coloured pencils, pen and ink.  I believe that this piece is successful as it contains many British facts through imagery and i feel ii have brought a lot of character to this cartoon doing so by having drawn Wallace and Gromit portraying two very different personalities, presenting Wallace as being very excited yet timed while Gromit looks very relaxed and somewhat edgy.

Unit 1 visual recording in art and design

For this assignment, I was asked to create visual recordings that explained the individual tasks that I was given on a list. I began this assignment by travelling to different places across Bristol that I felt would have visual aspects in which would best suit the different tasks on the list I was given, an idea that proved to be very effective for example for the task that asked me to make a visual recording of the oldest thing I could find in Bristol, I walked to spike island that is well known to have many important historical artefacts and interesting attractions. while I was there, I found a boat called the Mayflower that happened to be the oldest boat still afloat in Bristol. During these tasks I practiced many different art mediums such as photography in which I ensured that all photos were in focus and were taken having the main object as the main focal point for example while taking the photo of my mark on the city of which I took a picture of my sunglasses on a table I made sure that my sunglasses were the main area of focus and I practised this tactic in every photo taken throughout this project. I also found myself using chalk  and charcoal while making five rubbings from around the city with, which I felt were  the most difficult mediums that I had used as these materials smudged easily and were not practical  enough and so I decided to use a graphite pencil for my rubbings as this Merial did not smudge as easily and created  clearer and clearer outcomes. Pen and ink  however were the best material I used while carrying out these tasks as it allowed me to create clear outlines and enabled me to translate my hand drawn ideas better, an example of this can be seen in the drawn visual recording that I created to explain my experience of people watching while sitting in a café where I designed an image of a can with music flowing behind it and  a sun styled speech bubble that is emanating from a mouth that I drew on the cans face.

For my final visual recording in which I had to design my own creation I have chosen to create an image of the very iconic British stop-animation cartoon Wallace and Gromit playing chess while wearing different hats belonging to two very important British historical characters, having Wallace dressed in black beards hat while Gromit is wearing Isambard Kingdome Brunel’s hat and cigarette. I have included these characteristics as an attempt to express as many well-known British facts as possible. I have created this image using many different materials and mediums such as pen, ink in which I have used a heavy amount of in both of the hats that Wallace and Gromit are wearing, there outlining and Gromit’s nose. While the green jumper that Wallace is wearing, and Gromit’s body has been painted using watercolours. The chess table, stools, Wallace’s trousers and boots have all been created using coloured pencil a style choice of which was decided due to many attempts of using watercolour to create the detail in these individual aspects of this picture failing.

I am pleased with this final outcome as I feel I have created a truly British picture and feel I have illustrated the main facts about Bristol and its history while creating a fun and imaginative piece. That I had created in hopes people may ask about the historical storyline of this design. I have also tried to integrate as much detail as possible to this somewhat simple cartoon style. As well as this i have designed Wallace and Gromit paying a competitive game of chess while wearing the hats of black beard and Isambard Burnell as an attempt to suggest to my audience that these characters are fighting over the popularity of the public. Overall, I feel that all my visual recording answer the brief well while also looking aesthetically pleasing and creative.
