devon shier typeface pic .jpg
here i have created a mood board showing many variations of script style typefaces that i felt could be used for my infographic.I have chosen to research script style typefaces as i felt that this style font would help to create an elegant and somewhat feminine style.

devon shier typeface .jpg
this is an image of a mood bored i had created that i have made using images of infographics that i had liked. i am most fond of the infographic that can be seen taking place in the bottom right-hand corner that has been designed possessing a hand renders style, i will look to recreate this design while experimenting with different styles.

devon style.jpg
this mood board shows images created in a style in which i intend to re-create in my final infographic recipe. i have chosen this style as i believe that it is both artistic and aesthetically pleasing.

Ingredients

  • 60g butter
  • 250g self raising flour
  • 2tsp baking powder
  • 30g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 150ml milk
  • butter and jam to serve
  • *5cm (2inch) pastry cutter

Method

  1. Lightly butter a large baking tray. Preheat your oven to 220c (425F, gas 7)
  2. Sift the flour and baking powder in a bowl. Rub in the butter with the fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. stir in the sugar.
  3. Break the egg into a measuring jug and make up to 150ml with milk. Beat lightly to mix. Add to the bowl and mix to a soft dough.
  4. Lightly knead the dough until smooth. Roll out until 1cm thick, cut into rounds with the pastry cutter, and put on the baking tray. Brush with milk.

scone drawn .jpg
Here are three images of some rough sketches of different ways to draw Devonshire scones. i have placed the Devonshire flag on two of these images.
milk carton .jpg
this is an image of some rough sketches that i have drawn to express just some of the ingredients that are used to make Devonshire scones.  while drawing these images i set out to design a consistent and simple style.
scone ring .jpg
this is a picture of just one of the ways i will experiment in designing my recipe in. ii am very fond of this idea as i believe that this layout will cause my recipe to be clear and easy to follow.  i will design this layout using images created on illustrator as i feel that this style of imagery will benefit this design.
scone top .jpg
This is a picture of another way in which i could design my infographic recipe i feel that this designs layout could potentially work as this design looks somewhat organised and easy to follow.  i intend to experiment with this layout using images i have designed on illustrator.
tea pot .jpg
for this design, i have attempted to create a vintage-style tea party theme. i have done this as i felt that using an image of a tea party well expressed that Devonshire scones are a British food.  and i believed that incorporating imagery of a tea party scene would well express this due to the well-known fact that Britain is thought to be a county of which adores tea.
three cups draft
For this rough design, i have attempted to become more creative with this task and have designed the image of my scone sitting on top of a stack of cups. I intend to create a very feminine and elegant design that i will design. i will first design this idea by hand.
three cup.jpg
here i have taken my earlier design further doing so by drawing it out properly by hand.  i believe that this image is interesting and creative.

three cups colour
i have taken my earlier drawing further and have added colour to my image.  i feel that this design is interesting however i do feel that this image may be confusing and a simpler image that just features a picture of a Devonshire scone would be more practical.
eggss .jpg
here i have begun designing different ways of designing egg cartons and eggs on there own.  i had designed these using the pen tool in illustrator.
milk .jpg
Here is an image of three different ways i have designed the milk ingredient belonging to my scone recipe. i have designed two bottles and a milk carton.   i believe that the milk carton design looks more Profesional and possesses a vintage style that i believe may complement the overall design of my recipe if i were to feature this design in my final product.
jam pic .jpg
This image shows the two different ways that i have designed my jam ingredient.  i believe that the design on the right-hand side is the most successful design as i believe that this image resembles a jam jar the most while the other design on the left-hand side may not be recognised as effectively as a pot of jam but may be mistaken for a saucer of ketchup.
butter pic .jpg
I have designed the butter ingredient for my Devonshire scone in three different ways.  i have designed the stick of butter in the top left-hand corner in this rough style as i felt that this resulted in a unique and quirky design that looks somewhat innocent and childlike however i feel this design does not look professional enough to feature in my finished recipe design.   The design of the butter that sits in the centre of this picture has been designed on a wooden platter. I feel that this image is successful however i do feel that this design does resemble a block of cheese and may confuse viewers without having a lable. The final image of butter in this picture i feel is the most successful as this design looks like a stick of butter that is in its packaging while my addition of the name butter on the front of this image further ensures that my viewer will recognise that this image is butter.
sugar pic .jpg
this is an image of the three designs i have created to express the ingredient of caster sugar that belongs to my Devonshire scone recipe. the first design i had created was the image of the pot of caster sugar that i have placed on the far left-hand side of this picture. i feel that this design does not express this ingredient well as the pot i have made is not labelled there for this image could be mistaken for many other ingredients.   after realising this design was not informative enough I the went on to design the image of caster sugars that i have placed in the centre of my page which i designed resembling very well known designs of caster sugar that customers will be familiar with. I have done this by mimicking the design layout of these well-known castor sugar brands in order to ensure that this image will be recognised at this ingredient.  i feel that the result of this design has god well and i feel that my light yellow and baby blue colour scheme and script typeface works well and creates an elegant and vintage look.  in the third design that is on the right-hand side, i have designed a simpler design as i felt that having a simpler design would allow the viewer to retrieve the most information in the shortest amount of time without the distraction of complex design. I have done this by creating having the name of this ingredient being very clearly visible while having very little design.

baking powder .jpg
This is an image of the three different baking powder designs i have created for my recipe I believe that the most successful design is the image that has been placed on the far left-hand side of this image. i have this opinion as i feel that this design looks the most professional and realistic.
experimenting .jpg
Here i have experimented with different styles and designs doing so by designing the images at the very top of this image having details that i have created using lines to express detail.  while in the row of cutlery designs beneath theses images i have experimented with shape and shadow. as the pictures of this page travel downwards I then began to creating more creative images and using different effects and unique designs.  I am very fond of the charcoal effect that i have given to some of the images in this picture.  however, I do not feel that these style images are successful enough to take further into the final design of my Devonshire sone recipe.
style picture.jpg
I have chosen to design my Devonshire scone recipe inspired by the stylings of the 1950s I have chosen to do this as i feel that incorporating these stylings will add aesthetic appeal and a slight novelty effect.
pic of ingreed.jpg
This is an image of the main ingredients belonging to my scone recipe. i have designed these ingredients possessing a light blue colour with a darker blue striped design on the front of these items. i have chosen this blue colour scheme as i felt that this colour caused these products to stand out well while still having a simple design. I have also designed these products having this liner partner as I felt that this design added pattern while not overpowering my products with design aspects allowing the viewer to read the names of these products in a short amount of time.  as well as this i have also designed these items possessing the same design and colour as i felt that this created the allusion that these products belong to the same brand.
tools .jpg
This is an image of the utensils and toppings that are needed for this product. I have again used the colour blue as i felt that this would create a more harmonious look to my final design.
steps
This picture shows the designs i had made to express the steps that are carried out to create Devonshire scones.

my scone 1 .jpg
This is the final outcome of my scone design. i have created this image inspired by the two pictures of scones that can be seen taking place on the left-hand side of this image. i have done this by recreating the elegant and watercolour like stylings of these two images. i have chosen to use this image as i feel that this design is bright and professional and does strongly resemble a Devonshire scone.
scones set up 2 .jpg
For this infographic recipe design, i have placed the name of the food that this recipe tells of at the very top of this page in a red font and no background. i have done this as i felt that having it at the very top of this layout allowed for the most visibility while the red colour of this text reflected the red colour of jam that is very commonly known to b used in Devonshire scones while this colour also expressed a sense of importance.  I have also placed the ingredients needed on the right-hand side of this page framed with a curved line above it and a detached line that travels down the page as i felt that this style of framing looked somewhat hand render causing this recipe to look more personal.  U have framed my image of the Devonshire scone with the steps of the scone recipe travelling clockwise around this image as i felt that this flow of information would come naturally to my viewer. i also felt that by placing the method of this recipe in this way resulted in a very interesting look.
devonshier scones set up 1 .jpg
After suspecting that my earlier design may potentially confuse my viewer i set out to create a much simpler and straight forward design. I have done this by placing the steps of the method for this recipe side by side and being read downwards along the page.  i have also placed the image of the Devonshire scone in the top right-hand corner. even tho i feel that this design is very easy to read. i feel that it is not aesthetically pleasing and as a result looks dull. i

portrait pretty pink .jpg
as i felt that my earlier recipe design layout was function but dull I have attempted to design a  recipe that was both informative and athletically pleasing. i feel i have done this by creating a portrait design that possesses a more functional order having the name of this recipe on the very top of this page that is followed with the list of ingredients that are needed that are very clearly visible due to the fact i have placed this information in a white box that attracts the attention of my viewer before the readers eye is then drawn to the very large image at the bottom of this page.  after i have made to viewer look at the ingredients needed I then draw there eye down the page using the large scone as my focal point. after the customer has studied this scone image they then begin to follow the instructions clockwise around the image of the scone.

devon scone mid section ingreeds .jpg
I have designed this recipe having a flow that guides the viewer’s eye downwards along with the page I have also placed the images i have created that express the method side by side at the bottom of this page that also read top to bottom.  even tho i believe that this design layout is easier to read I do feel that the way that i have designed the order of this method being red top to bottom in rows does not work well as this flow of information does not come naturally to viewers.

final scone picture stripes .jpg
This is an image of my final design.  I first attract the attention of my viewer through the use of the title of this recipe which informs the viewer that this infographic recipe explains how to make Devonshire scones. i have used a script based typeface as i felt its hand-rendered style created a more personal and artistic outcome.  once the viewer has been informed of the name of this recipe i then present the viewer with an illustration I had made earlier that has been added to inform customers of what the finished outcome of this recipe should look like. This illustration also attracts the attention of the viewer through the use of the bright red colour i have given to the jam section of this image, once the viewer has finished studying my scone illustration i then drag their attention down the page just beneath this image to inform them of the ingredients needed to create a Devonshire scone. I have placed these images within a white rectangle as  I felt that the way that this shape brakes away from the pattern in the background of this image helps frame this section of information and also expresses a sense of importance and influences the viewer to observe this section of information before the imagery below.  beneath these ingredients, i have placed the method of how to create a Devonshire scone. i have designed the images i have created to express the steps belonging to the method being red from left to right as i felt that this flow of information would come naturally to my viewers as this is how the English language is read.  i have also created these images having a large amount of space between the steps as i felt that this would prevent confusion and ensure that viewers do not skip steps as all stages are visible. The background of my infographic recipe has been designed having light and dark pink stripes as this pattern reflect the patterns belonging to common wallpaper patterns from the 1950s that i believe causes a vintage look while also adding aesthetic appeal.

centural perk .jpg
One Beijing man’s obsession with the American TV show Friends has driven him to create a working replica of the show’s main hangout spot, the Central Perk cafe.  On the TV show, the Central Perk was the titular friends’ local coffee shop, and owner Du Xin, who describes the show as his religion, has slavishly recreated every aspect of its bohemian style.  Fitted with identical brick walls, tables, and even the ever-present orange couch, Du’s Central Perk is a mecca for local fans of the show.  The TVs in the shop even play episodes of Friends with Chinese subtitles, and each menu item is food actually mentioned on the show with an annotation stating which episode the snack appeared in.

toilet fall .jpg
Chinese artist Shu Yong has repurposed an astounding amount of porcelain to create this peculiar waterfall, just one of the many impressive ceramic sculptures residing in Shiwan Park, Foshan in the Province of Guangdong.
Designed for the Foshan Pottery and Porcelain Festival, a porcelain product tradeshow, Yong’s homage to bathroom plumbing consists of thousands of toilets and toilet accessories, including urinals, sinks, and toilet seats, spread across 100 metres and rising 5 metres in the air. The toilets are in fact connected so that just a single flush will start the waterfall off, producing a relaxing sound to users of the park.
water melons .jpg
Founded in 2002,the China Watermelon Museum is 4,000 square meters of exhibits tracing the origins of the watermelon from its birthplace in southern Africa to its eventual ascent into, apparently, space. The futuristically modern museum is packed with wax watermelons, displaying the various varieties from around the world, surrounded by abundant neon lighting. The displays cover just about every aspect of watermelons from their history, to growing methods, to China’s “watermelon culture.” There are ancient Chinese poems on display that make reference to melons, and all sorts of informational signs and plaques. Even the building itself is emblazoned with a giant impressionistic watermelon over the front doors.
window or world
The Window of the World theme park packs 130 world wonders into just 118-acres in western Shenzhen, located in China’s Pearl River Delta, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. Visitors can walk under the Arc de Triomphe, take a gondola down the canals of Venice, navigate the Colorado River down the Grand Canyon, and explore St. Basil’s Cathedral in just one day, so long as their feet can handle it.
dino land .jpg
If you love dinosaurs and theme parks, but hate waiting in line or sharing with other tourists, then Dinosaurs Fairyland is the place for you. The park features dozens of full scale dinosaur models as well as bones, both real and fake. There are also lots of photo opportunities with dinosaurs smashing down walls and hatching from eggs. However, Dinosaur Fairyland is never crowded, probably due to its remote location, about 20km outside the town of Erlian in Inner Mongolia, China. However, this means you will have the park all to yourself, except for the occasional men in military uniform that use the park as a thoroughfare to the bus station

dragon esc.jpg
Situated roughly 85 kilometres to the north of Beijing, Longqing Gorge is a pleasant change of pace from the crowded streets of China’s capital. Home to one of China’s largest dams, the otherwise tranquil surroundings are slashed by a gigantic dragon escalator.
Seemingly out of place against the cliffs in the background, the bright yellow behemoth rises 258 meters and is the world’s largest outdoor escalator. Once at the top of the gorge, you can engage in even more adventures, including a ride in a cable car or a boat trip on the artificial lake. If a boat ride sounds too slow for you, you can always bungee jump in the gorge as well.

little world town .jpg
Just 10 miles from downtown Beijing and Tienanmen Square, China’s World Park gives visitors a chance to see more than 100 of the planet’s best-known landmarks – including the Great Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, and the Statue of Liberty – all in miniature. The park is divided into five continents separated by four tiny “oceans”, intended to replicate the earth’s actual geographic layout. Guests can opt to circumnavigate the globe in miniature speedboats, take the overland route in battery-operated cars, or board the park’s monorail for a transcontinental journey by train    Replicas at the World Park are built with painstaking attention to detail, and many of the landmarks have been constructed using materials intended to mimic the originals. World Park’s Red Square is paved with more than five million tiny bricks the size of Legos, and the Great Pyramids are built of 200,000 miniature white marble blocks. The park also contains a shrunken Manhattan, where the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers still dominate the New York skyline.  Unfortunately, the park is not well maintained and time is taking its toll on many of the monuments.
kissing dino .jpg
A trip into Mongolia is like entering another world, or another time. On China’s border with the desolate country, is a site that seems almost comforting in the wasteland. At least as comforting as two dinosaurs engaged in a French kiss can ever really be to a weary traveler on the Trans-Mongolian Express .    Guarding the small town of Erlian, also known as Erenhot, are two massive apatosauruses, with necks craned and tongues lashing against each other. According to most estimates, they are the largest dinosaurs in the world, and their romantic activities add to their strangeness. Although they are the most prominent creatures in the Chinese Jurassic Park, the highways, parks and sidewalks are dotted with statues of prehistoric lizards.
eye of .jpg
Nestled in a natural valley among the remote limestone peaks of southern China’s Guizhou Province, the Five Hundred Meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) receiver is the largest radio telescope in the world, dwarfing Russia’s RATAN-600 or Puerto Rico’s Arecibo Observatory  Also known by the more literary moniker “The Eye of Heaven,”  this enormous dish was completed in 2016 to peer into distant celestial bodies billions of lightyears away. Its mission includes probing the remote parts of the universe to listen for signals of alien life, furthering our understanding of dark matter, and helping to map the Milky Way galaxy
circus .jpg
Shanghai Circus World is widely regarded as one of the greatest acrobatic acts in the world.
Housed in a geodesic dome in a northern suburb of Shanghai, the troupe of accomplished performers puts on a dazzling show three times a week that melds modern lighting and staging effects with traditional Chinese acrobatics, magic, dance, animals, and music.    The acts range from traditional bowl balancing and trampoline shows to newer styles of artistic trapeze. The performance typically culminates with a death-defying motorcycle stunt in which four bikers zoom around a spherical steel cage at terrifying speeds.
muse.jpg
Unit 731 was a covert biological and chemical warfare research and development wing of the Imperial Japanese Army that undertook lethal human experimentation during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945) and World War II. Commanded by General Shiro Ishii, an officer in the Kwantung Army, the exact number of men, women, and children who died within its walls remain unknown, but conservative estimates place it around the several thousand marks.      In the decades since, what has come to be understood is that every single one of Unit 731’s prisoners of war – the vast majority of whom were Chinese – died while being held at this camp in Pingfang, just outside the city of Harbin. Almost all these deaths were in horrific fashion. Prisoners were alternately infected or bombarded with the plague, anthrax, and other highly infectious diseases. They were then vivisected without anaesthetic so that military scientists could explore the efficacy of their new weapons of biological warfare, all of which seen to have been explicitly designed to be in violation of the Geneva Convention.
glass bridge .jpg
A terrifying glass walkway slithers around the vertical cliffs of the mountain, bringing adrenaline junkies to new heights. The skywalk sits 4,700 feet up the mountain, offering breathtaking views and spine-tingling thrills. The crystal clear bridge is 3 feet wide, 2 1/2 inches thick and winds around the mountain for 200 feet. While the landscape imparts a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, this is one scenic route you’ll want to walk gazing downward. The skyway offers a unique vista of the mountainous summits that launch out of the dense foliage of the park underneath. Clouds sometimes obscure the spectacle underfoot, but hey, it’s not everyday you get to walk on a cloud.
slide china .jpg
Millions of people dream of one day standing atop the Great Wall of China. But at the wall’s Mutianyu section, visitors have the opportunity to experience the world wonder in a much more thrilling way: by whizzing down it in a toboggan slide.

This curious fellow, usually painted red with large round eyes, mysteriously missing one pupil, is one of Japan’s treasured good luck charms. And what better way to get to know him than at the source. The Shorinzan Darumaji Temple in Takasaki, Japan is believed to be the location where the concept of the daruma was first conceived. When first purchased, the doll will have two large blank eyes. The purchaser should make a wish, then add a pupil to only one of the daruma’s eyes. After the wish is fulfilled, the second pupil may be added.

dead forest.jpg
The Aokigahara forest in Japan has the unfortunate distinction of being a destination for people who are contemplating suicide. Since the 1950s, recorded suicides in the forest have been rising at an increasing rate of between 10 and 30 per year. In 2003, a record number of 105 suicide victims were discovered here Japanese spiritualists believe that the suicides committed in the forest have permeated Aokigahara’s trees, generating paranormal activity and preventing many who enter from escaping the forest’s depths. Complicating matters further is the common experience of compasses being rendered useless by the rich deposits of magnetic iron in the area’s volcanic soil.
Due to the vastness of the forest, desperate visitors are unlikely to encounter anyone once inside the so-called “Sea of Trees,” so the police have mounted signs reading “Your life is a precious gift from your parents,” and “Please consult the police before you decide to die!” on trees throughout.

fox shrine .jpg
Built-in 711, the Fushimi Inari Shrine is the most famous of several thousand shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto God of rice.  Foxes are thought to be the messengers of Inari and as such many fox statues can be found at Inari shrines. The foxes are sometimes seen holding keys in their mouths, the key to the rice granaries. Japanese merchants, in particular, worship Inari to bring them wealth and leave numerous offerings at the shrines.
Fushimi Inari Shrine is also famous for its countless torii gates, offerings by worshippers, that cover the hiking trails of Inarisan, and the wooded mountain behind the shrine’s main buildings, also named Inari.    ( https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/fushimi-inari-shrine)
devil street.jpg
KyotoJapan’s Ichijo-Dori street is a fairly typical neighbourhood street save for the dozens of monsters standing sentinel in front of most of the local businesses. Also known as Yokai (“monster”) Street, the tight commercial lane celebrates the often strange beings that populate local folklore. There is a wide range of yokai in Japanese legend ranging from good to mischievous to outright evil. Some are animals, some are human, and some are inanimate objects that have simply come to life. Many of the creatures come from children’s stories or teachable fables parents might tell their children so they would take care of their things and not be wasteful. For instance, treat the broom with respect or, when you break it, it will come alive and haunt you.

statue shrine .jpg
The Sanjūsangen-dō, or Hall of 33 Bays (the spaces between columns), in Kyoto is a 390-foot long wooden building built-in 1266. Officially known as Rengeo-in, this Tendai Buddhist temple houses 1001 gold-leafed cypress wood statues of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, each with a unique face.
Photography is not allowed inside the temple. The building itself is so long that it is used as a measure of distance for the Tōshiya archery tournament held every second Sunday in January. On the tournament day, the priests also conduct the Rite of the Willow, in which penitents are touched on the head with wands of willow, said to be a ward against headaches.  (https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/sanjusangendo)
water goblins.jpg
In Japanese folklore, “kappa” are bipedal, turtle-like aquatic goblins who sometimes grab unsuspecting humans, often children, as they walk over bridges or through swamps, pulling them down into the muck to drown them.  The fishy-smelling kappa’s most distinct feature is the bowl-like dent on the top of its head, which it must keep filled with water at all times to stay alive.
The Tokyo neighbourhood of Kappabashi (literally “Kappa’s Bridge”) was supposedly so plagued by the creatures that its inhabitants built a small kappa-temple to appease themThe temple, called Sougenji or Kappa-dera, still stands today. Its altar is kept piled high with offerings of cucumbers – said to be the kappa’s favorite food – and its treasure chamber contains antique scroll-drawings of the goblins and even a “real” dried and preserved kappa-arm.

cat shrine.jpg
There are over thousands of maneki-neko cats – from big to small. Locals and tourists alike put new maneki-neko cats every day, so the number is constantly increasing.
Legend has it that during the Edo period, the final era of traditional Japanese government, a cat under the care of a priest at Gotokuji Temple led a feudal lord to safety during a thunderstorm. The cat beckoned the lord and his servants inside with a waving gesture—hence all maneki-neko statues have one paw raised.
The lord enjoyed tea with the priest while the thunderstorm raged outside. To express his thanks afterward, he donated rice and land and selected Gotokuji Temple as the cemetery for his prestigious family. Today, visitors can see hundreds of lucky cat figures on display around a statue of the goddess of mercy, Kannon. The main building and grounds are dotted with cats, while cat-related art lines the streets surrounding the temple

blood red water
Chinoike Jigoku diverges from the pack in its composition, appearance, and history. Only a small pool, its name is translated to Bloody Hell Pond, and its appearance immediately matches the images conjured by its name alone.
At 78 degrees Celsius, Bloody Hell Pond could better be used for cooking than a spa treatment. Its boiling waters bubble and send steam wafting off its surface into the air. Besides its outrageous temperature, Chinoike Jigoku is also rich in iron oxide at the base of the pond, which gives the pool a deep reddish color.
Since 700 C.E. sources have mentioned the pond and its appearance, which according to Buddhist beliefs, resembled a nightmarish underworld. It doesn’t help that the pool’s original uses were just as hellish as its dark, red, boiling mud. Chinoike Jigoku was used to torture people, and then boil them to death
forest pf good lucj
The Forest of the Seven Lucky Gods. Carved out of wood that once belonged to trees that were over 1,000 years old, the seven gods in the forest sit in historic rice storehouses near Takayama, Japan. The holy septet are important figures in Japanese legend and mythology, each with unique attributes not unlike the Christian saints. Hotei is the plump god of abundance, while Bishamonten looks over warriors. There is also Jurōjin who is the god of long life, Fukurokuju, god of happiness, and Benzaiten, goddess of art and enlightenment. Finally, there are Daikokuten and Ebisu, a pair of deities whose purview is over concerns of commerce and trade. Each of the lucky gods has a specific look as well from happy and healthy to fearsome and severe. The representations in the forest capture each of the gods’ attitudes in both face and body.
Each of the figures has a small shrine at its feet where spring water culled from a nearby shrine is left to honour the deities. Known as the “water of luck and prosperity,” the spring is said to have erupted from the ground 1,700 days after the gods first shared their divine influence with the world. The tranquil surrounds of the Forest of Seven Lucky Gods provide a meditative setting commune with the gods of fortune for anyone lucky enough to get to visit.

babie statues .jpg
In a shrine adjacent to the main hall of the Kiyomizu-Dera Temple in Kyoto, nearly 200 small, stone sculptures of the Buddhist deity Jizo wear bibs, placed by grieving parents who have lost children.      Jizo is the protector of unborn children and children who die very young and cannot cross the Sanzu River into the afterlife. It is believed that since they have caused their parents grief by dying so young and they did not live long enough to accrue good deeds, the souls of these children are condemned to having to pile stones by the Sanzu River to help their parents eventually reach the afterlife. They must constantly start over because the piles are knocked over by demons. Jizo helps the children through this trial, hiding them in his robes when they feel afraid and encouraging them with mantras.
bridge vine .jpg
One of Japan’s three “hidden” valleys, West Iya Valley is home to the kind of misty gorges, clear rivers, and thatch-roofed houses that one imagines from a Japan of 100 years ago. Remote and difficult to enter, the valley was a favored hideout of refugees, bandits, and disgraced warriors. To get across the Iya river that splits the rough valley terrain, these bandits, warriors, and locals created a very special, if unsteady, type of bridge — a vine bridge.

doll
Awashima jinja is a shrine for women and is famous for its enormous collection of dolls. There are a lot of Japanese superstitions about dolls, and a good number of people in Japan seem to find them a little mysterious or frightening, believing that they have souls or the power to influence human lives. There are a number of shrines and festivals wherein people dispose of their old dolls and toys – they feel that if they just threw them in the garbage, the dolls’ souls might come back to haunt them like ghosts.

goblins
Here i have designed an image of a female kappa-Dera. this creature is described as a turtle-like, aquatic goblin who are said to grab unsuspecting humans who cross their paths and down them in swamp-like waters. this creature comes from old folk tales. this creature is presented in many forms. i have chosen to design this female kappa- Dera resembling the stone statues that can be found  In the kappa-Dera temple, as opposed to designing this image in a more lifelike,, colourfull cartoon fashion to ensure that the viewer of my travel guide recognises the shine in this location as being kappa-Dera,
pupil doll
This is a daruma doll this doll is usually made from wood but i have designed this doll looking ceramic doing so by designing it having a reflective surface that shows a lot of shine. i have done this to create a somewhat fragile look/ this doll is often bought having no pupils. i have designed this doll possessing both pupils to show viewers the finished look. I have also designed this doll possessing the traditional daruma colours or red white and black in order to represent this doll in a more authentic way.
cat bekoning
This is an image of the Japanese beckoning cat. i have designed this cat straying from the traditional colour which shows a white cat as i felt that by designing this cat in this dark grey colour complemented the ceramic look i have created, as this colour exaggerated the shine and shadows that i have given to this design.
fish deamon in dessing gown picture
This is an image of a fish headed demon that i have designed after one of the homemade daemons that can be found on yokai street in Tokyo japan. I have chosen this demon n particular to re-create is i felt that this demon was the most bazar. I  have chosen to design this image looking like the monster its self in order to ensure that viewers if this travel guide recognizes this demon once finding this street to reassure them that they are in the right location.
luck god
I have designed this image to express the temple of seven lucky gods that i have chosen to feature on my travel guide. I believe that this design is successful as my image resembles one of the main seven lucky gods well. i believe that this characteristic will reassure my viewer that they have found the right location. i have also designed this image in this brown colour to reflect the fact that these codes have been made in wood that is almost 1,000 years old.  I have also chosen to create only the head of this icon as i felt that this section possessed the most important features and i believed that by not including the body of this image would draw more attention to the peaceful and happy expression of this wooden statue.
doll picture
This is my design i have made to express one of the interesting locations i have chosen to add to my travel guide. This location os Awashima Jinja which is a shrine to old unwanted Japanese dolls.  i gave designed a traditionally styled doll that has two black hollow eyes. i have done this as i felt that this eyrie look express the fact that in japan people believe dolls to be frightening, mysterious and posses powerful sols.  i have also designed this doll looks like it is ceramic or made of china as i believed that this effect would further express the idea of this doll being hollow. an effect i was looking to achieve because i felt that this look would suggest that this doll was encasing something dark and powerful withing its empty shell.
red sun
this page shows the various different designs i have made inspired by the Japanese rising sun flag and Japanese calligraphy. i will look to use some of these designs in the development of my travel guide infographic.  the symbol i have placed in the sun is the Japanese symbol that means spirit I have encorperated this symbol in my designs as I felt that this word reflected the fact that my travel guides theme is based on Japanese mythology and as most of the japan mythology tells of inanimate objects possessing very powerful spirits i thought that this would explain this fact well.  The symbol i have placed in the lantern image means hunter which i felt was appropriate due to the fact that my travel guide will take my viewers on an adventure around china visiting it’s craziest mythology locations which could also be described as a spirit hunt.
suns used
I have further developed some of my Japanese inspired designs by adding more detail and changing composition of some images.  i am pleased with the black and white rising sun design that i have placed in the top right-hand corner as i feel that this image is very aesthetically pleasing i have also encorperated the image of the Japanese map that can be seen hugging my rising sun design.
japan with lanterns
This is an image of the first design i had made for my travel guide infographic.  For this design, i have placed the rising sun, map design at the top of this page, acting as the main focal point of my design in order to express to my viewer that this travel guide will take them on a journey around Japan. Above this image, i have the name of the country that my travel guide will take viewers on a tour through. i have framed this title with Japanese lanterns doing so to illustrate the fact that these lanterns can be found in abundance on Japanese highstreets.  Beneath this imagery, I have placed a short description that tells my viewer the theme of my travel guide. i have placed this information above the six places i have chosen to include in this piece to ensure that my viewer reads this information that informs them of the theme of this travel guide and the nature of the locations below,  before the descriptions of these places. i feel that the overall design of this travel guide is unsuccessful as i feel that layout is messy and unrefined as i have not used text wrap and have not created a consistent layout throughout this design.

japan with symbols
For this design, i have placed the title of this travel guide in front of the Japanese rising sun design i had made earlier. i have done this as i felt that having this image behind the word japan helped further express my chosen country.  i also felt that by placing this design behind the title of this travel guide caused a more eyecatching effect due to the bright red colour belonging to the red circle that i have designed to represent the sun. On either side of my title, i have placed two Japanese symbols that i had created earlier. I have incorporated these two symbols as there meaning and stylings both express different aspects of my chosen country.  i have placed the map of japan travelling up the centre of this travel guide as i felt that this positioning allowed for the most visibility while also expressing a sense of importance.  i feel that the way i have placed the locations on either side of this map has resulted in a more organised look, compared to my earlier design while the larger spacing between my sections of information about my chosen areas cause my information about these different places around japan to be clearer and enables my viewer to read about these different places easier, as opposed to if these sections of information were placed closer together.  Even though i believe this design to be more successful than my earlier travel guide i still do not think that this design i good enough to be used for my final piece as i feel that this design does not look professional and still possess many positioning flaws such as the titles belonging to my different locations being out of place and are all inconsistent in layout.
long japan info graphic
I have placed the title of my chosen country in front of a design i had made earlier of the very well known Japanese rising sun flag. i have done this as i felt that by having this very well known flag design taking place behind my title helped further express the word japan. i have placed this title and image at the very top centre of this page as i felt that this express a matter of importance. i have placed this title within a rectangle in order to divide this imagery away from the information below. Beneath my title, i have placed the two symbols that i had made earlier that when placed next to each other form the words spirit hunter. I have placed these symbols on the left-hand side of this page at this large size to cause these symbols to be seen before the large map i have placed next to it to inform those that can read Japanese the places listed on the map beside it will be taking adventures on a spirit hunt. while also adding aesthetic appeal. adjacent to these symbols i have placed the map of japan in a black colour. I have chosen this colour as i believe that it causes this image to standout well through the strong contrast in colour that occurs between the light brown colour of my whitespace and the dark black colour of the map.  i also think that my use of the colour black causes the coloured circles that i have placed on this map, to show my viewers where my chosen places are located in japan to stand out very well and look eyecatching.  beneath this map, I have placed a short description of the nature of the places that this travel guide will take its viewers. I have framed this infirmation in a charcoal styled rectangle as i felt that this helped express a matter of importance. i have also placed this text above the information that tells my viewer about the different places i have included. to suggest to my reader that this information should be read first.  i believe that the layout in which i have designed the information for my chosen locations are not yet refined as the way i have organised my text is inconsistent and i have not edited the text to look in good order.  in my opinion, i do feel that the design of this travel guide is athletically pleasing but is not yet at a professional level.  i will look to further develop this design doing so by subtracting the charcoal outline effect and better organising my information.

Design report:

This is the final outcome of my infographic. I have designed this travel guide having the name of the country at the very top of my page as this allowed for, he most visibility and expresses a matter of importance. For this title, I have used an ink styled typeface as I believed that this resembled traditional Japanese artworks such as shodou art. I have placed my title in front of a design I had made inspired by the Japanese flag. In order to further express the title of this travel guide.

Underneath my title, I have placed some Japanese text that informs persons that can read Japanese that this travel guide will take them on a spirit hut as this text reads the words spirit hunter.  I have placed this text in the very centre of this page as I felt that this complemented the positioning of my title.

Framing this Japanese text is the map of my chosen country that I have colour used a colour-coded key to inform my viewers where my chosen locations are found on the map as I felt that by labelling these locations in this way was simple while also being informative.

After my viewer has finished looking at the map of Japan, I then catch their eye with a bold typeface that shares the same style as my title. Of which say’s “spirit hunters gather!” I have used this command as I belied it to be enthusiastic while also suggesting to viewers that this travel guides attractions as based around tales of statues and figures that possess powerful spirits. I have used the same typeface for the information below that informs my reader that my travel guide is based around japans mythology.

The locations I have chosen have been designed having the names of these locations curved around the heads of my infographics due to the fact that all of these images possess rounded edges at the top of these designs. I also felt that this design choice was unique and interesting. The images of my locations main attractions have been placed above the text in this central location as I felt that this reflected the central positioning of my infographics content. I have placed the colour key next to the images of the main attractions as this informs readers of the locations of these statues before reading about these attractions and the mythology behind them.

I have designed this travel guide having an elongated portrait shape as I felt that this shape complemented the central positioning and downward flow of my content. For the majority of this travel guide I tried to maintain a colour scheme of black and red as I felt that these colours created a large amount of contrast while also complementing each other. I have designed the background of this travel guide having this light brown colour as I felt that this caused an aged look and resembles the colour of old rice paper.

central perk starting line
These are the images i have designed to illustrate the central perk cafe that has been recreated in china. The design i have made in the top section of this page has been fashioned to resemble the original central perk logo, while also having Chinese characteristics such as the Chinese smoke patterns that can be seen rising from out of these cups. i have also designed the word china that can be seen placed above this logo that has been designed having the points in between each letter as this design reflected the stylings of the friend’s logo. The second design on this page shows the central perk logo redesigned and created in black and white. i have chosen this colour scheme as i felt that this colour best resembled the white colour of traditional china cups and also thought that this created a very nice elegant look.
heart watermelon .jpg
This heart-shaped Mellon has been designed to illustrate the watermelon museum that i have included in my china travel guide. this museum presents its customers with crazy and uniquely shaped watermelons.  i have designed this watermelon in the shape of a heart to express this museums passion for watermelons.

dino one .jpg

kiss dino .jpg
I have designed this image that shows two dinosaurs kissing with a heart placed beneath there heads to illustrate the attracting i will include on my Chinese travel guide of which is a motorway that shows two dinosaurs french kissings above the road. i have designed these dinosaurs being a light green colour as i felt that this colour is well known to be used for dinosaurs.
dragin esc .jpg
I have designed this image of a golden and jade dragon with an escalator coming out its mouth to illustrate the worlds longest outdoor escalator that can be found climbing up chinas largest dam in Beijing. of which i have chosen to feature in my Chinese travel guide. i hade designed this dragon being this golden yellow and jade green colour to reflect the true colours belonging to this gigantic escalator, i believe that this design is effective as this image is clear, bright and fun.

satue building
This is my design that represents the Tianzi hotel in china. I have recreated a cartoon version of the middle deities as i felt that this icon stood out the most. i have designed this god as close to the original design as possible. i believe that this design is successful as it does resemble the god that i had chosen. and it is because of this that i believe that this image will help viewers of my travel guide to recognising this wacky building once arriving at this location.
christ
I have designed an image of the christ the redeemer statue from Rio to illustrate the windows of the world attraction that i have chosen to include in my travel guide infographic for china that is home to 130 life-size replicas from around the world all in one place. I am pleased with this outcome as i believe that i have designed an image that is unmistakenly the christ the Redeemer statue.
type face for china
This is an image of a mood bored i have made that is full of many different Chinese inspired typefaces. I will look to use the typeface named imata script in the development of my travel guide. i have chosen this typeface as i feel that this design looks elegant and is aesthetically pleasing.
mood board chin
i have made this mood board using many different traditional chines pattern. after doing this i came to realise that Chinese uses a   lot of swirl shapes and smoke designs in these patterns while also using a lot of the colours red and gold of which i believe id due to the fact that these colours belong to the Chinese flag.
china typeface edited
i am pleased with this design that i have made earlier as i believe that i have successfully expressed the word china, doing so by incorporating this smoke design on to my chosen typeface. I have added this design after being inspired by traditional Japanese smoke patterns and I feel that i have reflected these styling well which has resulted in a very Chinese looking design.
china design picture
this is an image of a very rough design i have made to begin to experiment with the positioning of my infographics and patterns. i feel that this layout which presents my viewer with infographics that travel down this page evenly on both sides of my canvas.  i think that this design is interesting however i feel that the infographics placed on the left-hand side of this page would look out of place after the information about the origin of the infographic was added. as viewers would be first presented with the information about the location before viewing the image of the main attraction, an order which i feel to be somewhat illogical. i also think that this design had resulted in a chaotic look that is unprofessional.  i have also tried to incorporate Japanese pattern that i have places travelling down the left-hand side of my page.  i feel that this pattern exaggerates the Chinese look i was trying to express but i do feel that this design possesses to much contrast and may distract my viewer away from more important information
china pink flag
For this design, i have chosen to create my infographic having a landscape layout as i believed that this would enable me to better use the space provided. I have placed the title of my infographic on the top left-hand side of this page as i felt that this positioning complemented the portrait layout i had chosen. i also felt that by placing my title in this position caused the direction in which the cloud of smoke that i had given to my title reflected the flow of information that i have given to this travel guide which guides the viewer’s eye from left to right across the page.  I have placed the description of this travel guide just beneath the title of which acts as the main focal point in order to ensure that this text is read before any other information on this page.  the third focal point of this travel guide is the map of china that i have designed having the Chinese plag stars and colours on. i catch there eye through the red colour and large size. i have also colour coded this map, explaining to my viewer where the individual places i have described are located. i have placed my chosen places travelling around the edge of my page, framing the Japanese map i have done this to express the fact that these places are in japan. I am fond of this design but i feel that it does not look professional or authentically Japanese.
china with stars picture
for this design, i have chosen to use a simpler colour scheme of which is predominantly black and white as i felt that this caused the colours belonging to my images to become more eyecatching.  i have also chosen to segregate my information placing the imagery and text I want my viewer to read first on the left-hand side while placing all the information about my chosen locations on the right side of this page. i have done this as i felt that this resulted in a more organised style.
bamboo pictures
i have created this mood board of traditional bamboo tree designs as i intend to include this style art into my final travel guide design in order to create an infographic that possesses authentic Japanese designs.
bamboo designs
This is an image of a bamboo design that have designed in illustrator which i intend on using in the background of my infographic.

china final outcome
This is an image of my final infographic design. for this design, i have chosen to place the name of my chosen country on the right-hand side of this page as i felt that placing the title of this infographic here complemented the landscape style of my page. i have also gotten rid of the smoke design i had earlier given this typeface as i felt that by doing this resulted in a more elegant look. i then draw my viewers eye down the left-hand side of my page through the use of the bamboo design that i have placed in the background of my design. the branches of this bamboo tree lead the viewer’s eye towards the map of china. of which i have designed in dark grey colour as i felt that this colour helped the coloured labels i had given to my map stand out better. I have also placed the information of the places i have chosen side by side all possessing the same layout and positioning in order to create a very consistent look.  for this travel guide, I have designed a colour scheme that is mostly black and white. i have done this as i felt that by doing this caused the images i have designed for my chosen locations to stand out.

CHINA THE FNAL PICTURE WITH LOGO
This is an image of my final infographic travel guide that I made to show unknown Chinese tourist attractions. I have designed the main focal point of this travel guide to be the name of my chosen country of which is China. I have used a typeface that has a thin ink script style, as I felt that this created an elegant look. Once my viewer has read the name of my chosen country I then guide there eye down the page through the use of the bamboo design I have placed on the left-hand side of this page that I incorporated due to the fact that imagery of bamboo features a lot in Chinese artworks and also due to the fact that this plant is known to grow in vast amounts in this country.
I have used this image to draw my viewers’ attention to the short introduction that I have placed at the bottom of the left-hand side of my page. Which tells viewers the theme of this travel guides destinations. I have designed this text acting as my third focal point in order to add context to the rest of the information belonging to my travel guide.
After the viewer has read this information, I then draw their attention to the map of china that I have designed in this dark grey colour, as this somewhat dull colour causes the colours to belonging to my labels to stand out.
Once the map has been seen the imagery of my first novelty attraction captures the eye of the viewer. I have chosen to use the infographic design I had made to represent this location main attraction in order to ensure that my viewer is fully aware of the tourist attraction in which they will soon read about. I have also designed the information about my chosen topic to be viewed having the name of the attraction first then the location in which it can be found and finally the history about the location and ways in which to get there, last as I felt that this order presented my viewer with the most important sections of information first. I have used this layout to display all my locations in as I felt that by doing this resulted in a more consistent design while also looking clear and professional.
I have designed my page in this landscape fashion due to the way in which this page style allowed me to guide my viewer’s eye horizontally across the page. I also felt that by placing all of my content on this horizontal angle allowed my viewer to better see all of the content on my page in a more comfortable fashion as opposed to having to view information on a portrait canvas that drags the viewer’s eye downwards. As well as this I have used a somewhat limited colour scheme of black white and grey as I felt that by doing this caused the colour given to my imagery to stand out more prominently.
