japan stamps 22
Here i have made a mood board that shows many different Japanese stamps. i will use these stamps as inspiration while designing my olimpic stamps.
ink markings bored
This mood board shows some Japanese artworks that i have looked at. I intend to use these images as inspiration while designing experimental iconography.
swimming stamps
After deciding to create a stamp to illustrate competitive swimming sport, i created this mood board of Olympic swimming stamps to use as inspiration while designing my own stamp.
japan swimming bored
This is a mood board that shows imagery that i felt related to swimming. This mood board also shows many different art styles that i found interesting.

javlin stamps
I have also chosen to create a stamp that illustrates the Olympic javelin event. After making this decision i created this mood board showing many different Olympic javelin stamps.
javline throwers
This mood board shows images of javelin throwers. I have gathered these images to become familiar with the body position of a person while throwing a javelin.
discus picture
This mood board shows many different stamps that show characters playing discus, i have made this mood board as i intend on creating one of my stamps illustrating the Olympic discus event.
throwing pictures
I have made this mood board to show the position of the human body while throwing a discus. i have done this as a form of reference while designing my iconography.
teakwando pictures
This is a mood board that shows many different images of taekwondo. This mood board shows these characters in the kicking position very often, while also wearing protective headwear. I will look to replicate these characteristics while designing my taekwondo stamp.
stamp typefaces
This image shows the may different typefaces that i have found that i felt had potential to feature in my Olympic stamps. I have chosen these typefaces as i felt that these fonts were very unique, attention-grabbing and somewhat sports-related
markings n things
This image shows pictures of the way that i have experimented while using ink. I made the marking that can be seen taking place in the top left-hand corner by wetting my paintbrush with ink and spraying the ink on to the page by pulling the bristles back with my fingers and releasing them to cause this interesting ink marking.  The other images on this page show the various different brush troke markings that i have made while attempting to experiment with different thicknesses and styles.
line designs
This image shows some designs that i created using a fine liner that i had designed as rough but potential stamp icons. I created these designs inspired by iconic Japanese art pieces such as the painting called the great wave off Kanagawa. This fact can be seen taking place in the design of the image in the centre of this picture. I have also been inspired by the original 2d style cave painting of hunters and the 2d characters that often feature on greek vases.
line ink colour designs
This image shows other rough sketches that i have designed to display my iconography. After designing these images i have decided that i will design my iconography in this style that i will later refine.
stamp sty;es fpr figures
These images show’s four styles that i have designed while developing the taekwondo figure for my stamp.  i believe the design in the bottom left-hand corner to be the best image. i have this opinion due to the fact that i believe that this design possesses the most vibrant colour scheme of which also causes this design to be more attention-grabbing than the other designs. i also think that this design looks the most professional.  i will look to further develop this design and i intend to use this style while creating the rest of my iconography.

sport icons
This image shows the final iconography designs that I have created. I am pleased with these outcomes as I believe that these designs show motion, correct uniforms and body positions belonging to Olympic athletes while preforming there chosen sport.
rings
This image shows the two different Olympic ring designs that I have made. I have created these two designs possessing large amounts of colour as i felt that this would allow these rings to stand out well while being used on my stamps while they are at there correct size of 20mm x25mm
3d effect
The text at the top of this page shows the typeface that i have chosen to use on my Olympic stamps. I have chosen this text as I believe that its bold style will remain visible on my stamps while they are at there intended size. I also believe that its simplistic style will allow my viewer to read this text in a short amount of time and without distraction from unessasary artistic qualities. I have also designed it possessing this 3d shadowed effect as i felt that this design caused this text to look as though it is in motion. I have also used this effect for the other typefaces on this page. Another reason why i have created this effect is due to the fact that this caused these typefaces to look more colour full and fun.

stamp desifgns 1
I have designed the title of my stamps to act as the main focal points. I have done this as this is is an important piece of information on these stamps as it explains to my viewer that the Olympic games are to be held in Tokyo. I have also created these titles being dark orange, purple, blue and red as I thought that this style choice created a harmonious colour scheme and when these stamps are placed together i thought that this might influence viewers to want to collect all of these stamps. The second focal points of these stamps is the date of the Olympic games that I have placed just beneath the title of these stamps. I have placed the dates in this position to suggest to my viewer that this date is just as important as the title. underneath this information, I have placed the iconography that I have put in these different coloured triangle shapes. I have placed this imagery in the centre of these stamps to express the fact that these different sports play a huge part in the Olympics. I have also placed these triangles shapes in the background of these images to represent direction and movement. These colourful shapes also help my iconography stand out against the white background and ensure that these images remain viable at a small size. While making these stamps I decided to place the words Nippon 22 at the bottom of these stamps, as I felt that by placing this in the bottom left-hand corner would cause the top of this stamp to look less cluttered and I believe that the fact that this information is viewed after the imagery in the centre created a more natural flow. As opposed to if the eye were then drawn to the very top of these stamps. I have also given the numbers of this section of information these colours to ensure that these numbers were seen before reading the Japanese postal label at the very top of these stamps. i believe that these stamps are colourful and clear however,i do think that these stamps are not yet at a professional level. i also think that the javelin icon on the stamp at the bottom right of this image does not work as the javelin that my icon is holding is too long which made it difficult for me to place this image on this stamp at the same size of the other iconography that i have used and it is because of this that i will not be taking this design further and will look to use the rugby icon that i have designed earlier while creating future stamp designs.

stamps 1 with triangles
Here I have further developed my stamp designs. For these designs, I have chosen to keep the typeface and colours of my titles and positioning of the year of the Olympic games as I felt that this positioning and design worked well. However, I have added the colourful Olympic ring design behind this information to further express the fact that these stamps have been made to advertise the Olympics. I have also changed the large block-coloured shapes with these bright subtle triangle patterns that I incorporated as I felt that this created a more professional look. I have also gotten rid of the simple colour designs of the number twenty-six and have instead created an outline design. I have also used the 3d effect that I had designed for the Japanese stamp code. The final change I made was to make the Japanese symbols that I had made smaller I believe that these stamps look colour full and have a lot of information however I do feel that these designs look too cluttered.

stamps final outcomes
Design repot
This is an image of my final Tokyo stamp designs. While creating these designs I had chosen to make my main focal point in the form of my iconography. I have done this as I feel that the sports that I have illustrated are a very important part of the Olympics as it is these sports that people come to see. I have ensured that these images will act as the main focal point by creating them at this large size while also placing these images in the centre of my stamps to illustrate the fact that these sports are the most important part of the Olympics. I believe that the iconography that I have used is successful as I think that these designs show movement. Which I have attempted to illustrate through the use of the colour full liner pattern that I have designed to look as it is shooting off the bodies of my designs. I felt this represented the idea of speed and makes my iconography look as though the characters are in motion. The second main focal point of my stamps is the title of my stamps which informs my viewers that the Olympics is going to be held in Tokyo. For this text, I have used a very bold and rectangular-shaped sans serif typeface as I felt that its simplistic design would allow my viewer to retrieve the information in a short amount of time without distraction from unnecessary designs aspects while its boldness would create a lasting impression on my viewer. I have also given this title a grey colour as I felt that this natural colour would not steal focus away from my main focal point. I have also placed this text at the very top of my stamps to express a matter of importance. Just beneath this, I have placed the year of the Olympic games. I have created this number in a smaller size than the title f my stamps to ensure that this information does not steal focus from my previous focal points while its dark black colour allows this number to still be attention-grabbing enough that it is seen before the remaining imagery on these stamps.
Once my viewer has seen the year of the Olympic games, I then guide their eye down the page to view the Japanese symbol that all have an individual meaning that tells of the qualities needed to be good at these sports. I attract their attention through the slight contrast in colour that I have created by giving these symbols a grey colour that I have faded through the use of the opacity tool. This colour contrasts against the very colour full triangular patterns that I have placed behind my iconography. I have included these symbols to further express the fact that the Olympic games are being held in Tokyo.  After viewing these symbols the postal codes at the bottom are the next section of information to be seen of which I have designed in a grey colour and I have used a very thin, san-serif typeface as I felt that this style of text was very clear and functional both characteristics that are necessary for this section of information. The number in the right-hand corner has also been designed with functionality in mind, of which I put into practice by again using a very simple yet bold style. Finally, the colourful triangular pattern and the grey background is viewed last. I have included this pattern to enhance the visibility of my iconography as I felt that by including this colourful pattern to break up the background and create a stronger contrast in colour against my designs and the background.
typecace podster mood
This is a typographic mood board that i had made while researching typographic stamp design.

STAMP POSTERS TYPEFACES

baskervile 1
Baskerville was made in 1750 by john Baskerville. This typeface is very clear and striking. Characteristics I believe are due to the strong contrast in weight that this text possesses, of which can be seen transitioning from very thick to very thin. I also believe that this contrast in weight causes this typeface to look assertive while also looking slightly elegant. Another characteristic which I believe causes this typeface to look so bold is the use of the slab serifs that have been given to this text as the thickness of these types of serifs contribute to the strong impact that this typeface has of its viewer. This typeface has been given a regularly spaced font width of which I believe enhances the readability of this typeface. While also possessing an x hight of which appears to be proportionally correct and shows a clear difference in size between the capital letters and the lowercase letters which allows the reader to recognise the beginning of a sentence. I  believe that the somewhat short size of the lowercase letters allow the reader to differentiate capital letters from lowercase letters in a short amount of time.

BODONI 1
Bodoni is a serif typeface that was made during 1813-1940 and created by Giambattista Bodoni. The first thing i notice about this typeface is its extreme contrast in weight that transitions from being very thick to very thin. i believe that this style choice allows this text to look elegant while also being very attention-grabbing.  The second feature that i have noticed is the regular font width of this typeface as this causes this typeface to be very readable and clear. i think that the medium x hight makes the lowercase letters look in proportion and insures that these lowercase letters are very visible. i also feel that the regular cap hight of this typefaces is very suitable and allows the reader to see where sentences begin in a short amount of time.  to add to this i think that the regular x hight and cap hight both complement each other and does not overpower the reader. I think that this modern typeface’s unbracketed, rectangle-shaped serifs create a very sharp and professional look.
GALA SCRIPT
Gala script is a san serif typeface that has been designed possessing a medium weight that has a subtle contrast that transitions into a slightly lower weight. of which i believe helps keep the reader interested and makes this typeface look slightly more technical while still being legible and makes the corners of this text look sharper. This typeface has been created in an italic style of which causes this typeface to look very expressive and allows the individual characters to be better appreciated as pieces of artwork rather than just functional text.  This italic style also creates an elegant look while the medium weight of this text makes this typeface very visible. Another thing i notice about this typeface is the medium x hight of its lower case characters of which creates a more harmonious and level look of which i believe would have not been made possible if this text were given a smaller x hight that would create a more drastic difference in hight of which i suspect might detract attention away from the design of the typeface. Gala script is also a rather informal font that possesses unrefined edges that i think make this text look more personal and hand made. The designer of this typeface has given this text rounded corners and edges which have resulted in a nonthreatening and inviting look.  i have chosen to use gala script as my selected typeface of which i will use to design my typographic stamps with. i have chosen to do this as i believe that this typeface is very artistic, aesthetically pleasing and possesses an interesting form of which i think will benefit my work if i were to only feature a small section of a letter that belongs to this typeface.
GALA SCRIPT ABC
The first thing i notice about this typefaces capital letter g is its long curve that gives the letter a somewhat elongated shape that is exaggerated by the italic stylings of this typeface. the section of this curve that meets the base of the stem of this letter g has been given a very steep and smooth curved shape while the top section of this curve is very rough and short which created a very informal look. The bar of this letter is also very informal and has a larger end that i believe has been given to this section of this character to allow the bar to act as the main focal point of this letter. Gala scripts lower case letter g  also possesses a rather long descender that allows this letter to be very prominent, as this attracts a lot of attention from readers.  This letter also possesses a very oval-shaped counter that is created by its disconnected bowl. of which also takes place in the capital letter q in this image. The letter h of this typeface has stems of which begin very thick and gradually gets thinner as the stems reach the bottom of this character. I believe this has been done to illustrate the way that the viewer’s eye often starts at the top of a letter.  the bar of this letter can be seen running through the left stem of this letter only. i suspect that this has been done to create an artistic and hand-rendered look.  The stem of the capital letter R also attracts the viewer’s attention with the very thick top of its stem that then influenced the viewer’s eye to travel down the length of this letters stem. after the reader has finished looking at the stem this letter then captures there attention with the very rounded and disconnected bottom section of this letters bowl. this then makes the reader study the shape of this bowl while its contrast in weight creates a very unique look. the last section of this letter that the reader then looks at is the leg of this letter that remains the same weight from top to bottom that also possesses an artistic flic at the bottom that creates a more interesting design. The letter q on this page attracts the attention of its reader to the top disconnected section of its bowl that is very rounded. the viewer’s eye then travels around the rest of this bowl till the eye meets the disconnected end of this oval-shaped bowl. i believe that this letter possesses a disconnected bowl to in-keep with the stylings belonging to the other bowls in the characters of this typeface while also creating a handwritten look. the tail of this letter is the last section of this letter that the reader then observes. this tail is curved and possesses a stylish and rounded flicked end that I believe has been given to keep the viewer interested enough to keep studying the form of this tail until the curve of this tail reaches its end.

advansed san serif 2
Advanced san serif regular, is a very narrow san serif typeface that also has a rather high x-hight of which effectively makes the most of the overhead space provided by the cap hight. i also fell that this typefaces x-hight makes this text very visible and adds emphasis. I suspect that this feature was given to this typeface to allow the characters of this typeface to remain fully visible while being at a small pt size. Another thing i notice about this text is the rounded shape its corners of which cause less strain on the eye and creates a soft and unthreatening look. while its lightweight makes this typeface look elegant. Advanced san serif regular has also been created having a slightly condensed form of which i feel elongates the characters of this typeface and effectively take up less space. The second version of this typeface is called advanced san serif bold of which possesses the same style as the original typeface but possesses a thicker weight of which creates a bigger impact of the viewer and adds emphasis on its characters.

news gothic
News Gothic is a sanserif typeface of which was made by Morris Fuller Benton in 1908. I believe that this typeface is clear, functional and possesses a somewhat formal design. I feel that this typefaces semi bold weight helps to exaggerate the letters of this text just enough to attract the viewer’s attention, rather than overpowering the reader with very thick black letters. i also think that the semibold weight of this typeface enhances the readability of its characters. This typeface is often used in magazines and newspapers, a fact i believe is due to its slightly condensed structure. as this characteristic allows for more space to add more text within a small space which is very suitable for magazine design and short articles in newspapers. Another thing i have noticed about this particular typeface is its mono-weight stylings. of which i believe cause this typeface to look simple and clean-cut. while also looking very artificial, rather than handwritten.  The x hight that has been given to this typeface creates a clear contrast in size from the capital letters and the lowercase letters making the beginning of sentences more distinguishable. The kerning belonging to this typeface is very appropriate and makes this typeface very readable and is large enough that it allows the reader to study the individual letters in a short amount of time.

POP ART TOP DESIGN-01
This mood board shows many images that i have found that show different pop art pieces. I intend to design my stamps in a pop art style as i believe that this will help my designs stand out and be as eyecatching as possible. After making this design i have discovered that pop art typefaces are often very square, simple and bold. i will look to experiment using this styled typefaces while designing my stamps. I have also noticed that this style of art uses very vibrant colour schemes. i am most fond on the red, orange and blue colour scheme that can be seen featuring in the bottom left-hand side image.
pixles text
while trying to create a pop art styled text i began experimenting with the halftone function on illustrator. Which gave me these outcomes while using different colours that i overlayed. I also adjusted the setting of this function while also adjusting the settings of this tool.
face text-01
This is an image of a stamp that i have created using the characters that i had made earlier while using the halftone style option. I believe that this design possesses a lot of character and captures the viewer’s attention through its very bright and contrasting colour scheme of yellow, black and red. I also believe that the simplicity of my design is effective as my main focal point of this stamp is clear of which is the feminine face i have made in the centre of this stamp. and ensures that my viewer is nit overpowered by too much imagery. i feel that this design possesses some positive characteristics and i will look to further develop this design.
face text 2-01
Here i have further developed the stamp i had made earlier by incorporating more imagery. i have added a very vibrantly coloured frame which i had made using the halftone feature. while also incorporating various different colours rectangle shapes. i feel that these additions have resulted in a more professional looking stamp.
face text moustache-01
This stamp shows an image of a chef’s face that i had created using characters belonging to the typeface called Galla script. i believe that this stamp is simple and fun, however, i do not think this stamp is professional and i feel that this design is not interesting enough and as a result looks somewhat dull

pop art origin
Here i have attempted to create a design that possesses a better pop art design. I have done this by using a more vibrant colour scheme and a bolder text. i have also created a spotted pattern that i have used to decorate the typefaces them selfs with and the background of these characters. Even though this stamp design better resembles the pop art style i feel that this typeface causes this design to look to simplistic and uninteresting there for i will look to experiment using a more complex and artistic typeface while keeping the dotted pattern.
popart 1 picture
I have chosen to use gala script for this stamp design as i felt that this design was very artistic, free and personal. i also felt that its form was interesting and complemented the extravagant stylings of the pop art theme that i had chosen. While creating this design i had chosen to incorporate the thin rectangular shapes that i had experimented with while creating an earlier design. i feel that these rectangle shapes that i have used exaggerate and elongates the shape of my canvas. I have also used a very vibrant and contrasting colour scheme that is profoundly blue, red and yellow, which causes my stamp to be very eye-catching. I believe that this design is very effective and professional-looking and  I will look to use this design while creating the rest of my typography stamps.

pop art stamps
This image shows all four stamp designs that i had made possessing a pop art style. I believe that these stamps are successful as i feel that i have effectively created a pop-art style that features in every stamp design. i also feel that i have maintained a very bright and contrasting colour scheme in each stamp while also creating a harmonious colour scheme by creating the main background colours of my stamps in colours that are somewhat close on the colour wheel. to add to this i think that i have highlighted the shape of my chosen typeface by coving the interior of my typefaces characters in the dotted pop-art pattern. Even though i believe these stamps to be successful i still think that they are not yet finished as i have not included the name of the typeface i have used.
pop art blue yellow stamp-01
This is an image of one of my final stamps. For this stamp, I have used the capital letters A, X, Z and O. I have chosen these characters as I believe that the shapes of these characters are very different from one another and this causes these different letters to stand out well from one another while also keeping the viewer interested. I began incorporating these letters into my design my overlaying different designs of the same characters on top of one another. The first layer of these typefaces have been designed possessing black outlines and a poke a dotted interior that I had created to replicate the stylings of pop art. Beneath these layers, I have placed blue coloured characters that I have also positioned in such a way it appears to be echoing the previous character design.  I also believe that the way in which I have done this effectively makes the most of the space provided. While also showing the designs, I have created beneath these letters that effectively become part of the characters individual designs. The letter X that can be seen taking place appearing at an angle on the left-hand side of this stamp possesses a third layer of which I have designed in this bright red colour. I have done this in order to make this letter stand out better than the other letters on this stamp. Effectively causing this letter to act as my main focal point. I have also created this particulate letter possessing a larger pt. size than the other characters on my stamp to ensure that this letter is seen before any other imagery on this stamp.    I have placed the majority of these characters taking place as the edges of my stamp of which cuts off some parts of the letters I have used. This has been done as I felt that the fact that letterforms are so established that showing all of the letters form was not necessary for them to be recognised. This style of choice also creates a more interesting look. I have also designed this stamp having different sized rectangular shapes that can be seen stretching horizontally and vertically across this stamp. I have added these shapes to create a more interesting design of which I also believe exaggerates the dimensions of the shape of my stamp. These rectangles also acted as potential frames in which I could place the name of my text. After I had realised this u then placed the word gala at the very top of this stamp. I have placed this name at the very top right of this stamp to express a sense of import and I have placed the word script nearer the bottom of this stamp to make pieces to look less cluttered, while still drawing attention to this word through the use of the orange colour that I have given to the rectangle that I have placed it in. I think that the bright colour scheme that I have used yellow, blue, orange and red creates a fun look and causes my piece to be extremely eye-catching.  Finally, I have made the frame of my stamp black as I thought that this would exaggerate the designs I had created on the front of this stamp
pop art pink and red stamp-01
This is an image of the second typeface stamp that I had created for this design I have fashioned the main focal point in the form of the capital k that I have placed in the centre of this stamp at a slight angle. I have done this by giving this letter a third layer of this capital k that is in a bright blue colour that stands out well ad demands attention from my viewer. I have given this stamp a bright colour scheme that is yellow, pink, red and blue.  I have used yellow to display the second typeface layers of my design as the brightness of this colour enabled these characters to be very attention-grabbing and remain visible when this stamp is at its correct size of 20mmX25mm. I have chosen the letters s,q,k and m as I felt that the shapes of these typefaces were very different from one another as I felt that this fat would allow these letters to stand out individually.  I have also decorated the first layers of text with a pop art-inspired pattern to create a more artistic looking typeface. While adding this pattern I enlarged the spots of this pattern on the letter k to help allow this character to act as the main focal point by adding to its separate design. i encorperated the name of this typeface called Galla scrips by placing the world gala in a rectangle shape the bottom right-hand corner as that has been given a red colour to express a matter of importance while the bottom right positioning ensures that this text does not detract attention away from the main imagery.
pop art blue and purple stamp-01
This is my third stamp design. For this stamp, I have used a colour scheme of blue, yellow and purple.  I have used the colour blue as the main colour as a felt that the fact that this colour is brighter than the dark purple background would cause the letters to be more eye-catching. I have also designed the first layers of my chosen characters possessing a polka-dotted pattern to in keeping with the pop art theme that I have chosen to present my letters in. I have used capital letters only to feature in my stamp as I felt that the fact that capital letters are somewhat larger than there lowercase characters would cause my viewer to read these letters in a more intense inner monologue as opposed to if I had used lowercase letters. The second main focal point of this stamp is the first section of the name of my chose typeface called gala script. I have caused this name to act as the main focal point by placing it in the top left-hand corner as this positioning expresses a matter of importance while also placing it in a very brightly coloured
pop art yellow and blue stamp-01
This is an image of my fourth stamp. for this stamp, I have designed the large letter G to act as my main focal point. I have done this by making this letter larger than most of the characters on this stamp. I have also designed this letter g having a very vibrant pink background layer in order to cause this letter to stand out better than the other letters I have used. The second focal point is the vertex of the capital letter v that I have turned upside down at an angle.  I have created this letter v  possessing the largest-sized polka-dotted pattern to ensure that this letter is seen before the other letters on my stamp, I turned this letter at this angle as it resembles an arrow shape that helps guide the viewers eye to the word gala, that I that I have given a solid back colour as this colour contrasts well against the bright pink rectangle that I have placed it in I have also used this black colour to separate this text apart from the rest of the imagery and letters in this design while also keeping it at this small colour to ensure that this text does not steal focus away from my main focal point. Once my viewer has read the name of my chosen typeface, I then guide their attention up this page to the top right corner to the letter N  that I have made possessing the second biggest polka dot pattern which grasps the viewers interest before the final letter on this stamp which is the letter u that I placed at the bottom. I have designed this stamp possessing a somewhat random flow as to illustrate the informal design of my chosen typeface.

4 stamps pop art-01
This is an image of all four of my stamp designs. I have created a consistent style throughout the making of these stamps as I believed that this would create a very harmonious look and influence viewers to want to collect all these stamps. This can be seen in the way that I have used colour schemes in these individual stamps that share at least one colour belonging to a different stamp. while also selecting colours that are rather close to one another on the colour wheel I have also designed the letters that I have designed to act as my main focal points all having one additional layer that is brightly coloured. I have also chosen the letters in these stamps as I felt that they all had very different shaped structures and that this would cause all these letters to stand out individually. As well as this the name of my chosen typeface has been placed in the centre of rectangle shapes to look organised and framed while the different colours and styles of these shapes allowed me to express the different level of importance. To add to this I have given all of these stamps a black frame as I felt that this addition caused the vibrant colour that I have used to look more extreme due to the strong contrast that the black colour of these frames causes.
